Glenn MacPherson Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2024.
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce that Glenn Alan MacPherson, of Fonthill Ontario, died suddenly on Sunday, November 10, 2024 in his 83rd year after a lengthy period of declining health.
He was born on February 23, 1941 to Eugene and Evelyn MacPherson in Toronto Ontario. After completing high school at De La Salle College, Glenn attended St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto followed by Osgoode Hall where he obtained his law degree. Although his hockey skills may have helped with his admission to law school, it was his superior intellect which allowed him to make the most of his life changing opportunity.
Glenn enjoyed a successful legal career as a partner in his civil litigation practice, and later as a co-founder of ADR Chambers in Toronto, where he became a respected mediator and arbitrator. He would always lend a hand and provide mentoring to anyone who asked. His legal service and leadership were recognized with a Queen's Counsel designation in 1980, and he was also the first recipient of the Roger Fisher Lifetime Achievement award in 2012 for his role in the development of mediation and arbitration for the resolution of disputes.
Glenn was an outstanding athlete whether playing football, hockey, or baseball in his younger years, or later enjoying his epic golf career both at St. George's and Lookout Point Golf and Country Clubs. Glenn had a great passion for golf and was able to combine both travel and golf, enjoying many matches played against several European teams with the Ontario Legal Golfing Society, which he formed along with fellow Toronto lawyers.
Glenn welcomed fun - you always enjoyed being with him, and he enjoyed being with you. He made friends easily and kept them for life. He was also a great family man who would enjoy playing with his children and grandchildren at home, at the cottage or on vacation. Each summer at home, he would entertain all with a fireworks display to the delight of family and friends. While strong and stoic, perhaps Glenn's greatest trait was his sense of humour. His quick wit in any circumstance endeared him to all, except opposing counsel as he or she was often the object of his wit. He had many stories to tell and told them well. Glenn was the consummate gentleman who was a soft spoken, well mannered man of few words, and to his credit preferred to listen rather than to speak.
Glenn is survived by his wife Catherine, his sons Andrew (Allison), Dennis (Ally), and his grandchildren, Cameron, Liam, Dylan, Aidan, Hunter and Spencer, his loving sister Faye Bradley and her family, as well as his loving sister-in-law Suzanne Kula and her family.
Family and friends will be recognizing Glenn with a Celebration of Life at a later date. The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at D.H. Rapelje Lodge, House 400, for their outstanding care and compassion with Glenn while he resided there. Memorials or donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Canadian Cancer Society.
