Heather Lee Camara, 18, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, died suddenly on Monday, May 29, 2006 from injuries sustained in an ATV accident. Born in Poughkeepsie on October 7, 1987, she was a senior at F.D.Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park and the Dutchess County B.O.C.E.S. Career Technical Institute. She worked part time as a waitress at the Brass Anchor Restaurant in Hyde Park. She was a bright young lady with a promising future. Active with the Hyde Park Soccer League for many years, Heather has played F.D. Roosevelt Soccer since the eighth grade, most recently on the varsity team. Heather was named to the National Honor Society for the B.O.C.E.S. CTI, and planned on attending Dutchess Community College and going into the criminal justice field of study specializing in the forensic sciences. Heather was a loving daughter to her mother, and a friend to so many. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her mother, Katherine Mattes and her husband, Chris, of Poughkeepsie; her father, Steve Camara of Port St. Lucie, FL.; her sister, Alyse Camara of Poughkeepsie; and her brother, Garrison Mattes at home. Also surviving are her maternal grandfather, Phillip Garrison of Poughkeepsie; her paternal grandmother, Sylvia Camara of Connecticut; her paternal grandfather, Michael Camara and wife, Karen of New York City; her step-grandmother, Christine Mattes of Poughkeepsie; her step-grandfather, Kyriakos Mattes and wife, Yana, of Wappingers Falls; her aunts, Lynn Falabella and husband, John, of Hyde Park; Tracy Beaudry and husband, Ed, of North Carolina; and Maria Mattes and Dashawn Greene of Poughkeepsie; her uncle, Steven Mattes and Kim Uzzo of Poughkeepsie; her great aunt, Nancy Fogarty of Phoenix, AZ; and her cousins, Ryan Warman of White Plains; Matthew, Jason, and Zachary Brigner of North Carolina; and Nysa Greene of Poughkeepsie; and many, many extended family members and friends, as well. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Mary Garrison. Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 Pm, Friday, June 2, 2006 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:45 am, Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made to the Heather Lee Camara Memorial Scholorship Fund, C/O Kathy Mattes, 326 Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

Chris, Kathy, and Family, please accept my deepest sympathies during your time of loss. Though I did not know your daughter, I feel the sense of loss in the words expressed by others and it is apparant that she was a wonderful girl.
