James Roy Green

James Roy Green, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 2, 2023.

Mr. Green was born in Haywood County and made Canton, NC his home for most of his life. He graduated from Canton High School before joining the U.S. Army, proudly serving overseas in Germany for several years. He then worked at Champion International paper mill until his retirement, working primarily as a machine technician. Mr. Green held a strong faith and was a member of Long's United Methodist Church. James enjoyed taking care of his home and working with his hands, often mowing, building rock walls or adding structures to his home. His greatest love was for his family and his kind and caring heart touched everyone that was blessed to know him. James was a wonderful husband and father.

James enjoyed having coffee or lunch with his friends, and always made his family and friends feel welcome to his home. He enjoyed sports and never missed watching Duke Basketball. We celebrate the life of James Roy Green and give thanks for him and the thoughtful and loving person that he was each and every day. His inspiring life is an example for each of us to follow.

He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Warner Green; his father Carl Green; his wife of 55 years Nancy Welch Green; his daughter Jennifer Ann Green; his brothers Sonny, Curtis, and William "Doug" Green and; his sister, JoAnne Green Rogers.

Surviving are his loving family; his daughter, Dr. Cindy Green Farrell and her husband, Chris Farrell of Raleigh, NC; and his sister, Vida Lee Green Howell of Salvisa, Kentucky.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Crawford / Ray Memorial Funeral Home in Canton at 2:00 pm followed by a graveside funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Green at 3:00 pm at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. Reverend Peter Constantian will be officiating.
