The beloved husband of Melody "Molly" Kus, James was a loving father to Jamie (Greg) Losch, Jeff Kus, and Jonathan Kus. He was a devoted papa to Jordan, Jaylen, and Jenna Losch. Brother to Sherrie Jopke, Dori (Lee) Smith, and Larry (Sharon) Kus. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, James held his family dear to his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Donna (Wieber) Kus.
Following a long and distinguished career, James retired as a Detective from the Lansing Police Department in 1997, having served our community with unwavering courage since 1969. He dedicated his later years to the Eaton County Prosecutors Office; alongside roles as an Academic Specialist Instructor at MSU and with the Michigan State Police. His commitment to public safety culminated in founding Kus & Associates, LLC as a Security Consultant. James also retired after serving 20 Honorable years in the Michigan National Guard.
A staunchly outdoors-loving individual, James possessed a passion for swimming, walking and keeping his lawn well-manicured. He had an undeniable talent for the Accordion and loved polka music.
A Funeral Service will be held 12:00 pm, Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, Grand Ledge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Foundation, https://www.parkinson.org/, or the Lansing Area Parkinson's Support Group, https://lapsg.org/, in loving memory of James Kus.
