FORT WORTH - Javier A. (Ernie) Trevino, 70, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Rosary. 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, in Greenwood Chapel.
Javier (Ernie) was born and raised in Kingsville, Texas and after college his work led him to living in Detroit, Mich., Wilmington, Del., Jackson, Tenn., as well as San Antonio and Houston. Texas. He then settled his family in Corpus Christi, Texas and then later resided permanently in Fort Worth, Texas, where he was active with his church and school communities.
Ernie began his business career out of college working with the FDIC for five years, which led him to living in various states. After that, Ernie had 25 plus years in Business Management with various companies such as B.D. Holt and Mustang Forklift within the Corpus Christi area. A short time after that, Ernie became the store manager for the franchise store SEARS in his hometown of Kingsville, Texas. After moving to Fort Worth, Ernie found a new career path being a tutor and then elementary school teacher within the Fort Worth I.S.D. and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw I.S.D. until his retirement.
While living in Corpus Christi at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, Ernie Served in ministries of Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Altar Server Coordinator, and Religious Education teacher. When he moved to Fort Worth, he became active at St. Andrew's Catholic Church and served in the ministries of Lector, Quinceneras, and the celebration of the Our Lady of Guadalupe. His great religious honor was in 1987 when Pope John Paul the II visited San Antonio, Texas and Ernie, along with his wife, Velma, received Holy Eucharist from him. He then had the honor to be one of many adult sponsors to guide his Altar Servers to Denver, Col., for World Youth Day 1993 to see Pope John Paul II.
Since childhood and all the way through high school, Ernie was successful in playing numerous sports, primarily football and baseball. After high school, he attended Texas A & I University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1974.
Ernie was interested in numerous sports such as baseball, football and golf. He also loved reading especially Louis Lamour and Tom Clancy novels. He was an avid follower of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Texas Christian University sports. He was also active with TCU Hispanic Alumni Association. As part of the committee, along with Velma and Sara, he helped student(s) with receiving the Greg Trevino Memorial Scholarship.
Ernie was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Matthew Trevino; parents, Juan A.(Poncho) Trevino, Sr., and Angelita L.(Angie) Trevino; and brothers, Jose A.(Tony) Trevino and Juan A.(Sonny) Trevino, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Velma G. Trevino and their daughter, Sara E. Trevino of Fort Worth, Texas; Uncle Carlos S. (Chale) Gonzalez, Jr., of Alice, Texas; Also surviving are nephews, nieces and numerous cousins.
