Joe Nathan Lee, Jr., age 68, who resided in Desoto, TX, and was formerly of Chicago, IL. Joe peacefully entered eternal rest on a serene day, as God gently whispered to him, "Come unto me, and I will give you rest." Joe was born on July 13, 1956, to the late Joe Nathan Lee, Sr. and Varia Lee. As the third of five siblings, he grew up in a nurturing and loving family environment that laid the foundation for his future endeavors. His early years were filled with experiences and lessons that shaped him into the compassionate and dedicated person he became. From an early age, Joe embraced Christian values, accepting Christ under the leadership of the late Rev. Wilford Reed at Saint Stephen AME Church in Chicago, IL. It was here that his faith was nurtured, and his commitment to serving through music began to flourish. The church community was a cornerstone of his life and provided him the opportunity to grow spiritually and emotionally.
Joe's passion for music was evident from a young age, as he took bold steps in forming a male gospel group called The Relation, a testament to his dedication to spreading God's message through song. His musical journey was not just about melody; it was a ministry and a way for Joe to connect with people, to uplift them, and to share the profound joy that music brought into his life. His melodies were like a balm to the soul, providing comfort and inspiration to all who heard them.
After relocating to Desoto, Texas, Joe continued his spiritual journey and became an active member of Red Sea Baptist Church under the guidance of Pastor H.L. Smith. Within the church community, he was an inspiration to many as he generously shared his musical talents. He served as the director of the male chorus, a role in which he brought together voices in harmony and praise. This position was not just one of leadership but of mentorship and fellowship, as he nurtured the talents of others and encouraged them in their spiritual and musical journeys. Additionally, he founded another notable male group, Back To Basic, which affirmed his lifelong ministry through the power of gospel music. Joe's unwavering commitment to faith and music left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to experience his melodies.
Joe's academic accomplishments were equally impressive. He graduated from Westinghouse High School in Chicago in 1974, demonstrating a thirst for knowledge and personal growth. He furthered his education at Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, where he continued to hone his skills and prepare for a successful career. His time at Bishop College was influential, shaping not only his professional skills but also expanding his worldview and establishing lifelong friendships.
Over the years, Joe built a dedicated and respected career with the city of Dallas. His roles were as varied as they were significant, including serving as a Security Officer at the bustling Dallas Love Field Airport, where he safeguarded the wellbeing of countless travelers. He also worked as a diligent Code Inspector, ensuring the safety and integrity of community structures, and ultimately attained the position of Supervisor of the Department of Sanitation. In each of these roles, Joe demonstrated integrity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to his community. His work ethic was both respected and admired by colleagues and friends alike, who saw in him a model of dedication and excellence.
Throughout his life, Joe experienced both joy and loss. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, his cherished sisters Beverly Jefferson and Brenetta Hudspeth, and his dearly remembered in-laws, Artis and Laura Allen, along with his beloved sister-in-law, Kim Jackson. Though these losses were profound, Joe's faith and resilience were ever-present, guiding him and providing strength through difficult times. His ability to navigate the trials of life with grace and steadfastness was a testament to his deep faith and the support of his family and friends.
Left to cherish his enduring memory are those he held closest to his heart. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Trainette Allen Lee of Desoto, who stood by his side through every chapter of his life, sharing in the highs and lows with unwavering love and support. Their partnership was a beautiful testament to their love and commitment. His son, Cameron Nathan Lee of Desoto, continues to honor his father's legacy with pride and love, embodying the values and teachings Joe instilled in him. Joe's sisters, Brenda Banks of Stockbridge, GA, and Bonnie (David) Houston of Aliceville, AL, cherished their brother and shared countless memories throughout the years. Their bond was one of shared history, laughter, and mutual support. His uncle, Glenn Fudge of Chicago, IL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
