John P. Daly, age 86, of Dawn Dr., Meadville passed away Tuesday morning June 25, 2024, in Rolling Fields Eldercare Community.
He was born in Meadville on March 4, 1938, a son of James P. and Ruth (Bender) Daly.
He was a 1956 graduate of Meadville High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in education from Edinboro University in 1960. On June 18, 1960, John married the former Judy Davenport, she passed away September 8, 2016. He was employed as a social studies teacher at Randolph East Mead and Maplewood High School for 36 years, retiring in 1996.
John was a member of First Presbyterian Church, PASR. He served on the Elk's BPOE # 219 Scholarship Committee as a member and chairman. Upon his scholarship committee retirement, he was honored by being named "Elk of the Year.
His interest in teaching the youth went beyond the classroom as a coach. He coached Little Gridders, youth baseball, headed the Randolph/ Maplewood elementary basketball program. He was the head golf coach and in 1980 he took his team to its first Crawford County League Championship.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed reading, cooking, and golfing.
He is survived by a son, John P. Daly of Meadville and his cherished nieces and nephews, and his beloved brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday 7-27-24 at 12:00 PM in First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville with Rev. Dr. Daniel Corll, interim pastor officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Rose and Waid Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. for the Judy and John Daly Memorial Scholarship Fund 581 Chestnut St. Meadville, PA 16335. This is for a Maplewood student pursuing a teaching degree or First Presbyterian Church 890 Liberty St. Meadville, PA 16335. Arrangements have been entrusted to ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.roseandwaidfh.com
