Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services - Monaca on Mar. 20, 2024.
John M. Snyder, 86 of
Canfield, Ohio formerly of Monaca passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in
Boardman, Ohio.
John's story began in Rochester, PA, where he was born to the late Herbert W. Snyder and Alice Snyder Ritts. He was the brother to five sisters, Norma V. Snyder, Ruby Snyder Benson, Nita Snyder Slima and Sylvia Snyder Stuart-all of whom predeceased him-and Elaine Snyder Strelau, who survives him. John's life was enriched by his enduring love for his wife of 67 years, Lorraine Adams Snyder. Their remarkable journey together began at the tender age of 14 and blossomed into a lifetime of shared memories and unwavering companionship.
The couple was blessed with two children, a daughter Cynthia Snyder (Michael) Poplyk and a son John D. (Valerie Rossi) Snyder. John's legacy continued to grow with his granddaughter, Amanda Moore and his grandson, Matthew Snyder, and his joy was multiplied with the birth of his great-granddaughter, Maggie Moore. Though his heart was touched by the loss of his granddaughter, Meghan Marchionda, John's memory lives on through his loving family.
A proud 1955 graduate of Rochester High School, John's work ethic and dedication were evident from an early age. He began his career working at a foundry in North Rochester, where at 16, he earned enough to purchase his first car-a 1946 red Chevy convertible, igniting a lifelong passion for automobiles. John's professional life was marked by his 38 and a half years of committed service as a steelworker at Teledyne Pittsburgh Tool Steel in Monaca.
John's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He had an innate ability to fix almost anything, from household plumbing to electrical issues, a talent that often came in handy for his family and friends. His younger years were spent enjoying the outdoors, where he found pleasure in fishing and golfing. John also had a fondness for visiting casinos.
Even as his interests evolved, John's love for cars, trucks, and motorcycles remained steadfast. He was a former member of the Rochester Lodge #229 F & AM and the New Castle Consistory. He was a devout member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer for 40 years where he served on church council, prior to relocating to
Canfield, Ohio.
Friends will be received on Friday, March 22nd from 10 am until the time of service at noon with a family friend, the Reverend Susan Irons officiating.
Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery.
