Joe is preceded in death by his baby brother, Robin.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Myrtie Tolson of Sweetwater; daughter, Cynthia (Chris) Luther of Fort Mill, SC; twin brother, John (Maggie) Tolson of Kingston, TN; his sister, Peggy Monroe of Maynardville, TN; his two grandchildren that made Joe a very proud "Pappy", William Gentry Luther of Greenville, SC; and Jon Farris Luther of Upton, WY. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Receiving of friends will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Kyker Funeral Home Chapel, Sweetwater. Services will immediately follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Jason Pounds and Jeff Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in honor of Joe be given to First Baptist Church, Sweetwater.

Such a good, good man. He was a dedicated volunteer at CCK, and wore his optimism and positivity on his sleeve.

What an inspirational human being. I met Joe in his early 70s. He had more energy than folks half his age. Specifically he fell in love with a camp for seriously ill children 4 hours from Sweetwater in Scottsville, KY. He and his amazing wife spent weekends at the camp working in the kitchen and helping anywhere they were needed. We miss Joe. A life well lived.
