Memorial Service for Mrs. Josephine Anna Ninesling, 75, of Alexander City, will be Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Radney Funeral Home. Father Matt Rudzik will officiate.
Joanne Ninesling, a beacon of light and love in her community, passed away surrounded by her loving family. Her life was a testament to her intelligence, generosity, and creativity, qualities that touched many hearts and lives throughout her years.
Born with a spirit that would come to define her, Joanne was the cherished daughter of the late James Howard Tanner and Agnes Bertha Tanner. Her legacy continues through her beloved children, Scott Ninesling (Kristie), Eric Ninesling (Bekah), and Brian Ninesling (Jennifer) of Prattville, AL. Joanne was a proud and doting grandmother to Madison, Emma, Hailey, James, Hannah, and Abigayle Ninesling, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Terry Heinser, who stood by her side through life's many chapters.
A lifelong resident of the community, Joanne was affectionately known as "The Birding Lady," a title she earned through her dedication to the Piedmont Plateau Birding Trail. Her passion for nature and wildlife conservation was evident to all who had the pleasure of walking the trails with her. Joanne's enthusiasm for birds was matched only by her love for the thrill of racing. She enjoyed watching all types of racing, from the roar of NASCAR at Talladega, where she served as an admissions supervisor, to Road Atlanta with Ms. Jill, to the competitive spirit of her beloved Auburn sports teams.
Joanne's generosity of spirit extended well beyond her family and personal interests. As an active member of her community in Jackson's Gap, she managed the local voting center with a welcoming smile and a kind word for each neighbor who walked through the doors. Her commitment to civic duty was a cornerstone of her character, inspiring many around her to engage in the democratic process with pride and responsibility.
Her creative and intelligent approach to problem-solving was a boon to the Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama, where Joanne played a vital role in helping senior citizens receive tax assistance. Her ability to connect with people from all walks of life, understanding their needs and offering practical solutions, was a gift that she gave freely and joyfully.
Throughout her life, Joanne's priorities were clear-family, community, and service to others. Her presence was a source of stability and warmth, and her legacy is one of love and dedication that will continue to resonate in the lives of those she touched.
Joanne Ninesling's life was a journey marked by an unwavering commitment to her family, an enduring love for nature and sport, and an unselfish desire to contribute to the well-being of her community. As we remember Joanne, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a woman deeply loved. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
As the sun sets on a life well-lived, we bid farewell to Joanne Ninesling, knowing that her spirit will continue to guide us just as the stars guide the migrating birds she so loved. Her journey on earth has ended, but her story-written in the lives she touched-will go on. Joanne will be dearly missed, but her impact will remain, a lasting tribute to a remarkable woman.

I am so blessed to have met Joanne through The Alabama Birding Trail. I was just able to visit with her this summer and pick up some birding materials from her from the time she consulted with our office - University of Alabama Center for Economic Development. We had a lovely visit and was able to catch up in person over the many happenings during the past year of both our lives. I am blessed to have known Joanne.

I so enjoyed working with and getting to know Joanne. Though I had not seen her in several years, we worked together for years. Her love for her community and her passion for promoting birding to every body was an inspiration. She was an unstoppable force and we'll all miss her!
