Reverend Juan Angel Martinez

Reverend Juan Angel Martinez, 74, of rural Mt. Vernon, MO, passed from this life to his heavenly home on Tuesday evening, July 4, 2023 following a lengthy battle from Covid that resulted in Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Juan was born on May 11, 1949 in Mexicali, Mexico, son of the late Maximilliano Martinez and Gloria (Luna) Martinez. During his childhood, Juan enjoyed track and field events, especially cross country running and the 50 yard dash. Juan served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, Juan studied Mechanical Engineering at Los Angeles Trade Tech in Los Angeles, CA. During his working years, Juan was a Mechanical Engineer, working for IBM. From a young age, Juan felt called to serve the Lord. He was ordained as a Minister through Independent Assemblies in 2018. Juan had Pastored in California before serving the Harvest Church in Aurora and then Kingdom of God Ministries in Mt. Vernon.
He married Grace Cirlos on December 31, 1971 in Los Angeles. They have been blessed with 52 years of wonderful memories and four children.
Juan is survived by his wife, Grace, of the home; his daughters, Lisette Montemayor and husband Raul, of Mt. Vernon, MO and Vicky Avena and husband Oscar, of Ontario, CA; his sons, Juan Martinez, Jr. and wife Amber, of Sacramento, CA and Moses Martinez and wife Sabrina, of Mt. Vernon, MO; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters.
Juan adored his wife and was a wonderful Husband, Dad, PaPa and Great-Grandfather. He also loved to tell jokes and shared his great sense of humor. His greatest passion however was to share his faith in Jesus Christ and to win souls for the Kingdom of the Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the Freedom Christian Fellowship Church in Sarcoxie with Reverend Moses Martinez officiating. Interment and military honors will be held on Monday, July 24th at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
