Age 72, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. He was born in Boonville, New York on September 8, 1951 to the late Harry and Dorothy (Loson) Koster. He grew up on a dairy farm until age 6 when the family moved to Lowville, NY. Growing up he enjoyed camping out under the stars, fishing and small game hunting with his school friends. Upon his high school graduation, he received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Brockport College. He moved to Wisconsin to receive his graduate degree from UW-Madison and then moved to Appleton, WI where he worked his entire career as a Social Security Rep. As a retirement gift, he purchased a 1978 MGB Roadster. Many happy hours were enjoyed traveling the backroads of Central Wisconsin.
It was in Appleton that he met his wife, Barbara (nee Fritz), and they married on his birthday in 1979. He enjoyed being active, running, bicycling, basketball and cross-country skiing. He had a farm for 28 years in New London, WI and loved growing his own food for his family, raising animals and gardening. He moved to Waupaca in 2023 where Keith was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Chapter 3432 Waupaca. He and his wife enjoyed traveling abroad and in the United States.
He will be missed by his wife: Barbara; children: Valerie (Michael) DeCoster, Nathan (Emily) Koster, Jason (Stephanie Hazelbauer) Koster; grandchildren: Sophia, Olivia and Dylan DeCoster, Bellin and Mara Koster; sisters: Marilyn Macri, Patricia Carbone, Jacqueline Kramer; sister-in-law: Karen (Michael) Klatt; special cousin: Thomas (Kathy) Ransiear; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol (George) Kovach, brother, Harry Jr. "Fritz" (Jane) Koster, brothers-in-law, Nicholas Macri, Louis Carbone, Edward Kramer and parents-in-law, Harold and Loretta Fritz.
The Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, N2845 Shadow Rd. Waupaca. The visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Entombment will be in Union Cemetery in Wautoma.
In lieu of Flowers, the family will be accepting donations for bicycle trail enhancements for the Wiouwash trail, such as a bike repair station, bench or general trail maintenance. He maintained a healthy and active lifestyle and that is how we wish to remember him. He especially enjoyed the Wiouwash Trail for about 45 years and other trails throughout the State.
