Lora Fern Taylor, 79, of Rushville, went home to be with the Lord early on the morning of Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Rosebud Village in Richmond.
She was born on April 2, 1944, in Wickes, Arkansas, a daughter of the late James Nolan and Ora Minnie (Demorest) Jenkins.
Lora married the love of her life, Gene Autry Taylor, on December 10, 1960, and she worked alongside her husband in the family business, The Wickes Texaco Station, in Arkansas for many years. Lora and Gene felt led of God to go to the Beulah Mountain Children's Home and Academy in Beulah Heights, Kentucky, where they served for almost 20 years. She retired from GECOM in Greensburg in 2011 after 11 years of employment. Lora was an organizer and loved planning parties and get-togethers. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed singing as well. Lora loved the Lord and most recently attended the Shelbyville Bible Holiness Church.
Those left to cherish Lora's memory include her children, Rhonda (Tim) Todd of Connersville, Richard (Debra) Taylor of Greenfield, OH, Donald (Sarah) Taylor of Richmond, and Mark (Skosha) Taylor of Greensburg; a host of children she raised as her own including, Lara Williams Mote, Edna, Calvin, and Jeffrey Venable, and Ginny Duffy; and 19 grandchildren, Gabby (Robert) Sorenson of Cincinnati, OH, John (Ashleigh) Todd of Oldenburg, Rebekah Inabnitt of Martinsville, Timothy N. (Heidi) Todd of Kennewick, WA, Joanna Brown of Ridgeville, Julia Todd of Stillwater, OK, Faith Todd of
Dallas, TX, James Todd of Greensburg, Susanna Todd of Greenwood, Nathaniel (Annalisa) Taylor of Yorktown, Nolan (Joya) Taylor of Bedford, Michael (Janae) Taylor of Lewiston, ID, Melissa (Mike) Brooks of Richmond, Matthew Taylor of Decator, Melody (Jonathon) Musgrave of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Marianne (Nick) Latessa of Charleston, SC, and Kaylea, Kamian, and Klover Taylor all of Greensburg; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lila Jenkins of Brookville, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
Lora was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gene Autry Taylor, in 2011; a child she raised as her own, Tony Ray Williams; a grandson, Quinston Taylor; a great-grandson, Josiah Gene Musgrave; two brothers, Lloyd and Lacey Jenkins, and five sisters, Lady Jenkins, Louann Jenkins, Lavern Jenkins, Laurel Miller, and Lily Conley Bell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Shelbyville Bible Holiness Church, 2911 E. Michigan Rd.,
Shelbyville, Indiana, with Rev. Jerry Bell and Pastor Joe Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Rush County.
Friends may call from 12:00 noon until the time of service Saturday at the church.
