Marilyn Anne Parks

Marilyn Anne Parks, 88, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2023 at Calvin Community in Des Moines.
A lifelong Des Moines resident, Marilyn was born to Jack and Margaret Scovel on October 24, 1934, the younger sister of Jerry. She met her husband of 64 years, Russell, at Lincoln High School; they married while students at Iowa State University and had two children, Melanie (Michael Hopson) and Kevin (Mary Ann).
Marilyn was an expert seamstress who later took up quilting, earning nine blue ribbons at the Iowa State Fair. In 1987 she made quilting her vocation, opening The Quilt Block with a partner; there, she infected her customers and students with the "quilt bug" until retiring in 1998. Marilyn leaves a lasting legacy with the beautiful quilts that decorate the homes and warm the beds of many relatives and friends.
Marilyn's parents and husband predeceased her. Her surviving brother, children and grandchildren will greatly miss her, as will her beloved cat, Rooney.
Marilyn was fortunate to have a strong caring network during the last phase of her life. The family expresses sincere thanks to the dedicated staff at Calvin Community; to Monica Jensen; and to Allan Lynch and the entire team at Suncrest Home Health and Hospice.
