Gary was an excellent newsman, and a wonderful personality. For many years he worked the overnight shift at AP and I would greet him at 6 a.m. to start mine - there was excellent conversation. His stories were something for all new staffers to hear. His first assignment as a cub reporter was a plane crash that left a lasting impression on all who heard his recount of it. Funny ones like the legendary buffet buster in Harlingen; the new San Antonio correspondent who only lasted a few hours before being fired; and Gary being chased around the office his first day at AP by a cranky, equally memorable staffer. (My dad, also a staffer then, was to blame for this prank.) Gary organized the office softball team, with the younguns playing the other positions - although he was past his prime as an athlete, he was smiling all the way. He was young at heart, with a quick laugh. A beloved coworker. Some rough evenings I would completely oversleep and Gary would call and wake me up at home with a laugh - he never told the boss about my tardiness. He invited me to Florida, I'm sorry I didn't take him up on it. ... RIP Gary you will be missed.

We didn't know Gary too long; just a few years at Emerald Coast Fellowship. I Always enjoyed listening to his stories. I was amazed at all the places he had been and the people he had met.
He will be missed.
