Marvin LeRoy Hansen passed away January 3rd, 2023, at the Maple Springs Care Center in Logan, UT. He was 86 years old, born November 5th, 1936, in Ogden Utah to Moses John Hansen and Helen Barrett Hansen. He was the eldest son having two younger brothers Melvin John Hansen (Janice) and Michael Dean Hansen who is deceased (Sherry). Ogden was Marv’s home while growing up. He and his friends played rubber guns and other street games for fun. As he grew older his spare time was spent playing card games, fly fishing and ball at Liberty Park, the neighborhood hangout. He took pride in taking care of his first car, a black 1939 Oldsmobile Coupe that he purchased for $150.00, using the money he saved from his paper route.

Marv attended Ogden High School and Weber College where he played both basketball and football. After completing his education in 1956 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in the Pacific and served 6 years, both active duty and reserves. Marv moved to Salt Lake City to further his education at the University of Utah where he met his future wife, Karen. They started dating and married on September 14th, 1963. As they began their life together, he continued his education at Weber State College. After Graduating in 1964, he began working at Hill Air Force Base where he began his career as a Systems Analyst. During his 28 years he performed several jobs duties that would take him to Virginia and on TDY multiple times. After retiring, his interest in designing homes lead him to begin a second career as a designer, builder and eventually a developer. He was busy for the next 13 years with his construction business. Designing and building these homes was very fulfilling for him.

Marv and Karen began their family in 1966 when their first child, Kellie, was born. They welcomed five more children, Jennifer (Jeremy), Matthew (Lisa), Suzanne (Justin), Andrea, and Dave (Angelina) completing their family. They lived in both Roy and Fruit Heights before settling for 47 years in Mendon, Utah where they raised their children. They enjoyed raising many animals, planting gardens and the abundance of space Mendon offered for activities and exploring. Marv has 12 grandchildren that he loved and adored: Jacob, Emma, Noah, Moses, Wyatt, Matthew, Lauren, Sarah, Olivia, Ethan, Lucas and Adeline. He traveled as often as possible to visit with them as most of them lived out of state. He enjoyed camping trips and traveling with them to Yellowstone, the Tetons, Jackson Hole, Yosemite, Canada and many of the State and National Parks.

In his spare time, Marv developed his talents and interests in photography, coin collecting and genealogy. He was the founder of the Mendon Photo Guild and for several years held monthly meetings and competitions. He also sponsored an annual photography show at the July 24th celebration in Mendon, Utah. Marv introduced his love of the outdoors to his children at an early age. They began in the Uinta’s by hiking to Shadow Lake, pitching tents, fishing, making campfires and exploring the surrounding mountains. Then moved to more challenging hikes to lakes farther into the Uinta’s and Wyoming to include Cutthroat Lake and the Wind River Lakes. Over the years, he enjoyed driving cross country to the Outer Banks, North Carolina where his family gathered during the summer. He drove several times for the adventure of looking for cemeteries for genealogy, and both historical and church sites and landmarks. Marv’s love for the outdoors, State and National Parks has been passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Marv has been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since his baptism at age eight. He has served in several positions including temple worker, councilor in multiple bishoprics, Stake High Councilman, young men’s leader and primary teacher. The annual backpacking trip to the Unita’s with the young men’s group was one of his favorites, and teaching the primary children held a special place in his heart. The spirit that he felt through the youth made a strong impression upon him. Marv’s testimony of the church was strengthened as he visited several sites located in Illinois, Missouri, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania to name a few. He believed that Jesus Christ was his savior and redeemer, and that Christ died for his salvation and eternal life. He had a testimony of the true fullness of the church as restored in latter days.
