A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary E. "Eleanor" Blunk, 95, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, where a rosary will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Care and Share. Mrs. Blunk died on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Kahl Home, Davenport. Mary Eleanor Goodall was born on September 27, 1914 in Wheatland, Iowa, the daughter of John E & Clara (Clarke) Goodall. She was united in marriage to William J. Blunk, Jr. on December 31,1949 at St. Paul the Apostle Church. He preceded her in death, October 24th, 1994. Prior to her marriage, Eleanor worked at the former Jackson State Savings Bank in Maquoketa, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineer's Office, and Schierbrock Motors in Davenport. After her children were in school, she went to work in the Respiratory Therapy Department at the former Mercy Hospital. She was an active volunteer and parishioner at St. Anthony's working part-time for many years as a secretary for Fr. Kenneth Martin, Fr. James Conroy, and Msgr. W. Robert Schmidt, as well as a member of the Parish Council, retiring in 1991. Eleanor loved her family and together with her sister, originated the Goodall Family Reunion, held biannually in Petersville, Iowa since 1985. Eleanor's faith and love for her family directed her life. She will be remembered for her quick smile and kind heart. Her children treasure memories of a home full of pets, time together on the front porch, and "roots" trips to her beloved Jackson County. We know that she is now in heaven and laughing at her husband Bill's jokes, and looking for a bridge game. Survivors include her children and their spouses, her two daughters, Katie and John Tritt, and Rosemary and Tom Wolfe all of Davenport; her three sons, Joseph Blunk, Ames, IA, James Blunk and John Blunk, both of Davenport; her four grandsons, Brian Tritt, Jack, Bobby and Tommy Wolfe; Her sister, Janice Reynolds and her brother, John Goodall both of Davenport, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews and extended family.
