Mary Beth Moody Smith of Chickamauga, age 63, died on February 3rd, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mary Beth was born on August 19th, 1960 to Donn & Linda Moody in Springfield, Ohio. She was known as Beth to her family and friends in Ohio and grew up on the family farm. She was active in band, 4H and horse shows. She was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School (OH), Tennessee Temple University and Western Governors University.
She met Michael in her time at Tennessee Temple, and married thereafter. Mary Beth and Michael went on to have four children, Moody, Melanie, Morgan, and Montgomery.
After graduation, Mary Beth started her first teaching job at Chattanooga Valley High School in Northwest Georgia. This kickstarted a full life of investing in youth. She was a charitable heart, loyal Buckeyes fan, constant in her church community, loving mother, and incredible baker! She lived her life in a way that always offered more to others. With a brilliant mind, and a heart for young people, her faith is evident in the life she lived, and those she touched. She faced every obstacle and hardship including this final one, with grace and confidence that God had a plan for it all. She was an active member of Mission Ridge Baptist Church and served as Treasurer for Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and the Walker County Republican Party.
Mary Beth was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Moody, her daughter, Melanie Smith, and her father, Donn Moody. She is survived by her mother, Linda Moody, her husband, Michael C. Smith, three children, Moody (Edith) Smith, Morgan (Jared) Buckels and Monty Smith, her sisters, Kay (Matt) Hamilton, Jolene (Andrew) Carter, Lynette (Danny) Moore and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Mission Ridge Baptist Church in Rossville, GA.
The family is receiving visitors from 2-8 on Friday February 9th at the church.
Funeral service is to take place on Saturday, February 10th at 2PM, with Rev. Eddy Rushing officiating. Graveside to follow.
Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
If you feel led to do more, flowers may be sent to Mission Ridge Baptist Church on Friday. Donations can also be made to Mission Ridge Baptist Church, or Ridgeland High School to go towards school supplies for students in need, in her honor.
