Without realizing things of importance, we sometimes amble through this life blindly. Thank you, Michael, for being a guiding light in the life that God has blessed me with...

Dear Diane,
So sad to read of Mike's death. But I know there was much music and celebrating when he arrived "home." I will let Chris know; he lives in VA. Chris once gave me a line from Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh: "Men build their heavens as they build their circle of friends." ...So many of us have Mike as a foundation stone for our heaven. ...Thank you for having been such a great wife for Mike. How he loved you. ... Alexander and Julia will have warm memories of their gregarious Dad all their lives. Such a gift!

Mike was a wondrous visionary in the Buffalo folk scene. In the 70's when I read poetry at the Shoreline Coffee House at the Shoreline Apts, Mike played his guitar with my poetry. I was very shy, and brought my children with me. He gave my son Mark a harmonica there when Mark was only 6. Mark was very impressed by that, and went on to compose music until he started GirlPope and now with Mark Norris and the Backpeddlers. Mike signed his last CD for me, and always had a hug for me. He did the Women of August readings at Nietzche's. He came right after a chemo treatment to my book opening of Trees of Surprise at Karpele's on Porter, and sang for us all, even though he wasn't feeling great. His spirit is of the great Irish bards, and that is what I will remember him for. Michael, go with God.

Love,

Marjorie Norris

Diane, Julia, and Alexander, I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in our hearts and prayers. Mike was a wonder man. He always welcomed us in your home and made Andrea feel good about visiting. Always involved with the kids and school. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. God Bless, Becky and Andrea Buchanan

It was the early days of the folk music scene in Buffalo when I first met Mike Meldrum. We struck up a friendship that lasted 30 years. Very early on, Michael recorded three of his own tunes for me on cassette tape: Please, St. Frances of Assisi, and Forget It. Michael, I will never forget you. My sincere condolences to his family and friends, especially to Dianne, Alexander and Julia.

Dear Diane,
I am so sorry to hear about Mike's passing. He colors my memories of gigs and fun times with humor and song.
The times ahead will seem like you have moved in "bizarro" world.
I live there now and after awhile you begin to manage. I am sending love and healing to your family, from mine,
Diane O'Neill

I see you singing the depths of your soul and playing your guitar...and smiling deep. Your legacy is rich in love and family and friends and music that personifies everything life is about. I'll miss you, but I know the journey you had to make has set you free. Peace, my friend.
