Moszek "Martin" "Pop" Wassermann

Moszek “Martin� Wassermann, lovingly known as “Pop� passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the age of 85. Beloved husband for 57 years to Diana May Baber Wassermann. Loving father of Michael Robert Wassermann, Jeffrey Mark Wassermann and his wife Sandra Lynn Cannon, and Helene Laura Wassermann Shafer and her husband Norman. Grandfather of Garret, Tiffani, Shawn and Spencer Wassermann, Alyssa Kochan, Isabella and Hanya Shafer. He is preceded in death by his parents Izek and Chaia Wassermann; brothers Nachmun, Welwul, and Hershel Wassermann; sister Henia Wassermann. A native of Warsaw, Poland and a Holocaust survivor, Martin received a letter of accommodation from the captain of the ship that brought him to the United States, for him volunteering to take care of the sick crew as well as fellow passengers. Upon his naturalization as a U.S. citizen, Martin proudly served the Unites States Army. He owned C and W Carburetor and enjoyed photography and woodworking. Martin would speak with students about his experiences as a Holocaust survivor. He touched many lives and was an inspiration to all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM.
