Neill Echols, a generous and friendly soul whose faith was as steadfast as his dedication to his fellow man, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024, at the age of 72 at Wills Memorial Hospital in
Washington, Georgia. Born to the late Oliver Henry and Gladys Winslett Echols on May 24, 1951, Neill's life was a testament to hard work, devotion to family, and service to the Lord.
Growing up in the Delhi Community near Tabor Baptist Church, Neill embraced his faith early in life, a commitment that would guide him through his many years. He attended Washington High School, graduating in 1969 and furthering his education at Southern Tech, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
Neill began his professional journey with Charles Elam Surveying, but it wasn't long before his entrepreneurial spirit shone through. Around 1976, he established Neill Echols Surveying and later acquired a farm and ventured into pig farming. His business later evolved into Neill Echols Construction. He became known throughout the region for his expertise in clearing land, building ponds, and as a contractor specializing in the removal and installation of underground storage tanks.
His work ethic was matched only by his generosity and friendly demeanor, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. Neill was a member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon..
Neill's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Jackie Fain Echols; his children, Ben Echols and wife Tammy, Jon Echols, Susan Echols, Crissy Echols, Jeremiah Echols, Amanda Batson and husband Josh, Jessica Clarke and husband Hill, and Andrew Echols; 17 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren; brother, Wesley Echols and wife Brenda, and sister, Patsy E. Blakey. His son, Tim Echols preceded him in death.
A life well-lived is one that leaves behind more than just memories; it inspires others to live with kindness, work with passion, and believe with conviction. Neill Echols did just that, touching lives far and wide, from the church pews to the construction sites, and every place in between. His was a journey of purpose, marked by a faith-filled heart that sought to uplift others through every act of service and every smile shared.
