Olvis Otha Osbourn, 101, of Llano Texas entered his heavenly home on Monday, January 16, 2023. He lived a blessed life as the patriarch of his family who will miss him tremendously.
Olvis was born on November 26, 1921, to Florence and Leona Osbourn. He was the youngest of nine siblings and grew up in Valley Spring, Texas. As a child he enjoyed hunting, riding his horses, fishing, and doing anything outdoors. He loved growing up with his large family working on the farm, ranching, deer hunting in Llano County and Colorado and raising and running his hog operation. Olvis was recognized by the Texas A&M Animal Science Department for swine production from 1978-1983. He was named Llano, Texas, Cowboy of the Year in 2003, and he was also honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshall in the Llano Rodeo Parade.
Olvis was a veteran of WWII and always told the story about cooking for General Patton. He was also actively engaged in the Battle of the Bulge. Later on in life, he enjoyed attending many Army Reunions all over the United States and even traveled to Europe to visit the areas where he served his country. A few years ago, he was even fortunate enough to be chosen to go on the Honor Flight in Washington, D.C.
After returning from the war, he married Verna Hallmark, the girl from down the creek who had become the love of his life, on December 20, 1946, in Bluffton, Texas. They were active members of the Llano Church of Christ, and Olvis served various roles as a song leader, deacon, and an elder there for many years. They were happily married for 76 wonderful years.
Olvis and Verna brought twin daughters, Toni and Joni, into the world in 1950 and raised them in a loving, Christian home. He took pride and joy in watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their various activities.
He is survived by his wife, Verna of Llano, Texas, of 76 years, daughter and son-in- law, Toni and Dennis Raesener of Llano Texas, daughter and son-in-law, Joni and Gary Howell, of Valley Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Chera Cox and husband Ricky, Carie Chance and husband Caleb, Kristi Hutson and husband, Garrett, and Kyndel McLeod and husband Michael;great-grandchildren, Kalyn Springer and soon to be husband, Brandt, Sheldon Springer, Colten Chance, Cambry Chance, Carrys Chance, Ryder Cox, Gunner Hutson, Kessler McLeod, Madden McLeod, Taggert Hutson, and Ledger Hutson.
Olvis is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, grandson, Tanner Wayne Howell, great-grandson, Maddex Tanner McLeod, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 19, from 5-7pm at the Harrell Funeral Home in Llano. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Llano Church of Christ with interment following at the Llano Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Cherokee Home for Children and the Tanner Howell Memorial Scholarship through Llano National Bank. Pallbearers are grandsons Ricky Cox, Caleb Chance, Michael McLeod, Garrett Hutson, and great grandsons Sheldon Springer and Colten Chance. Honorary Pallbearers are all of his beloved nephews.
