Mrs. Readie Mae Scotland was born to the late Marion ''Bob'' Hanks, Sr., and Rosa Bell Jones Hanks on November 14, 1924 in Abbeville County, South Carolina. She died to this life Friday, November 25, 2022. A caring, godly woman, she touched and blessed the lives of many. She was a long-time member at Wilson Creek First Baptist Church where she served faithfully throughout her adult life as a member of the missionary society and a faithful supporter of the church.
Mrs. Scotland spent her life as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor, friend and encourager for many. She was married to the late Robert Clotell Scotland and was the mother of eleven children. She was greatly adored by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, extended family along with many other community members and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Scotland was preceded in death by three sons: Douglas C. Scotland, Charles K. Scotland and Richard Timothy Scotland; three sisters: Winfred Thompson, Dorothy Bell Martin, and Hazel Heard; two brothers: Marion Hanks, Jr. and Roy Hanks.
Blessed beyond measure, Mrs. Scotland lived to see five generations of her progeny and enjoyed the company of the successive generations during family gatherings to include Christmas Eve breakfast, family reunions, birthday celebrations and frequent visits. Her wit and sense of humor were often breathtaking and surprising. She could make you laugh wen you least expected it. She had a green thumb and always had colorful flowers enhancing the beauty of her home. Additionally, she loved shopping, cooking, reading the newspaper, and completing circle word puzzles. She was profound, insightful and calm. She was easy to love but most importantly, she loved unconditionally.
Though she is no longer with us in the flesh, ''Mother'' will forever live in the memories and spirit of her surviving family members, to include her three daughters: Teresa Lee, Joyce McMahand, and Hazel Faye (Alexander) Roebuck; five sons: Clinton (Teresa) Scotland, Marion (Deloris) Scotland, Robert Michael (Debora) Scotland, Calvin (Barbara Ann) Scotland and Johnny (Jeanette) Scotland; Kimnesha Norris, a granddaughter raised in the home; one brother, Boris Hanks; thirty-nine grandchildren, sixty-four great grandchildren, fourteen great, great grandchildren and a multitude of admiring nieces, nephews and relatives.
Funeral service for Mrs. Scotland will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Starr, SC with the interment to follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery, Anderson, SC.
