Richard Louis Garrett, Jr., went home to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
Richard was born in the summer of 1965, along with his twin brother Ricky, in Holdenville, Oklahoma, to Richard Louis Garrett, Sr., and Barbara Jean (Blaylock) Garrett. Richard grew up in Madill, Oklahoma, before his family moved to Whitewright, Texas, where he graduated from high school. Richard was lively and charismatic and always the life of the party. He loved to sing and dance - to country music, especially. He also loved to play sports and was very competitive, especially excelling at baseball. More than anything, Richard loved his family. He is fondly known as "Uncle Country" by his nieces and nephews, and was referred to as the "fun uncle". Many friends know him as "Country" and he lived up to every letter of the name. His jeans were always so starched they could stand straight up by themselves and he always had a country quote on the tip of his tongue.
Richard is survived by his three children, son Dustin Merrell (& wife Taylor) and Dustin's children Britin, Zoe, Easton and Mason, daughter Destiny Garrett-Perez and Destiny's sons Cody, Angel, Efren and Daniel, and son Kristian Merrell. He is also survived by his siblings and their children: brother Dennis Blaylock (& wife Beth), sister Sheila Travis (& husband Tim) and children Amber Melton and family, and Matthew Bumpass and family, twin-brother Ricky Garrett (& wife Theresa) and children Ashley Garrett and family, Jamie Garrett and family, Courtney Barrett and family, Madison Shehan and Coleton Garrett, and sister Angie Garrett and children Gregory Owens and family, Gary Don Owens and family, and Tasha Owens and family.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Richard (Sr.) and Barbara Garrett, and sister-in-law Helen (Spencer) Garrett."
Memorial service for Richard will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2023, at Fisher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas.
