RANDOLPH - Richard L. (Mingo) Monroe, Jr. unexpectedly died at his home in Randolph on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023.
Born in Gardiner in 1956, he was the second child of Richard L. Monroe, Sr. and Mary Josephine (Lemieux) Monroe.
A 1974 graduate of Gardiner Area High School, he remained a lifelong Gardiner Tiger fan. However, he cheered for the Cony Rams for several years while his two eldest grandchildren played a variety of sports throughout their childhoods. During his 47-year career, Richard worked for MSAD #11 for 10 years, Kennebec Valley Medical Center/MaineGeneral Medical Center for over 30 years, and most recently, Millsy's Cleaning Service. In 2020, he joined his wife in retirement.
Richard was predeceased by his parents; his brother, John, and his sister, Katherine Childs.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Jayne Woodworth Monroe; his children Robert (Jessica) Monroe of Mishawaka, Ind. and Maureen Elwell of South China. He was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren, Bethany (Steven) Morse, Brandon Elwell, Alexander and Rosalyn Monroe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
All arrangements are under the direction of Staples Funeral Home. At his request, there will be no visitation or service.
