This is not a sorrowful story of a death, rather, the details of a man whose life was well lived. Richard Seymour was born May 18th, 1939 and at the age of 83 was ushered into the Kingdom of GOD on March 1st, 2023.
Richard, fondly referred to as Dick, was born to Richard & Geraldine in Columbus, Ohio.
He married Carol Ann Hatfield Phelps on March 17, 1982. Dick was an exceptional brick mason and built his own business with his bare hands and the sweat of his brow. Dick & Carol lived in Texas for several years but ultimately returned to Ohio. Dick was an avid hunter, loved to camp and Carol was always by his side joining him in all his endeavors.
He was preceded in death by both parents, and siblings: Shirley, Roger, Laura, Marilyn, Donnie, and Benjamin, son Richard Seymour, daughter Treasa Holland, grandchildren Candace Phelps, Dewayne Tackett, and David Simms.
Richard was devoted to and survived by his wife, Carol. Children: Shannie & Jeff. Siblings: Joe & Roy. His other children by marriage: Mike (Joyce) Phelps, Gary (Diane) Phelps, Karen (Doug) Simms, Son-in-law David Holland. 12 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren. The family would like to recognize & honor two very special friends who helped care for Richard during his final days, Marty Wollett & Frankie Robey. Richard's friends are too numerous to list.
While this may be the conclusion to our prose, really only a few details were shared. Who was Dick? He was the one with a smile for you, and if you were "down on your luck" he had a caring ear to hear, with a solution. His presence had a warmth about him that made you stop and think, hey, I want him to be in my corner of life. If you were a stranger, it was only momentarily, all the while he had already made you his friend, you just hadn't figured it out yet. Dick's laughter will be longed for, and his departure was painfully too soon.
His family will receive friends Wednesday, March 8, from 12-1 p.m. at the Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg, where his service will be at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Franklin Hills Cemetery, 5802 Elder Road, Canal Winchester.
