A salute to my great friend, Robert Hayden and to his family that helped shape my memories.
He was my college roommate and I was his best man. He was my sailing buddy. He was my woodworking mentor and advisor. He was my honey source and my key-lime pie supplier. I knew him as a respected, gentle and modest country boy with a military bearing, a great husband, a wonderful father, and an inspiring grandfather. He is my son's namesake. His dry sense of humor and ever present smile was his trademark. My friend was an all around good person. My wife and children have all been blessed to be able to call him "friend". We shared many good memories. We were close like brothers and in the language of our Kappa Sigma Fraternity A.E.K.D.B. I will miss him dearly.

Bob will be missed. Over the years his friends saw his warm and generous side expressed in many ways. I will always remember him sharing his honey, visiting his workshop and getting his help with wood projects, admiring his garden and sharing tips with Jeanette, cheering on the USC basketball games from our adjacent sections, and supporting St Mary's.
We often talked about the Saluda River trout he helped protect and his stewardship of the Rivers Edge property. He was a long time supportive member of the Saluda River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, attending meeting and printing and distributing monthly newsletters to the hundreds of members from his print shop for several years. He also built a memorial bench on the river recognizing our late friend and chapter charter member, Ted Wietecha.
Sympathy to Jerri and all his family and friends along with appreciation of a life well lived.

Jerri. I will truly miss Bob. Every time I saw him, I would break into a smile. I knew our conversation would be interesting, funny and friendly. Alice and I send our sympathy. Bless.
