Robert Curran Obituary

Published by Ramsey Funeral Home & Crematorium on May 28, 2012.
Robert "Bob" Curran, age 79, died peacefully at his home in Georgetown, Texas on May 29, 2012. Bob was born in East St. Louis to Lora Hogan and Frank Curran. He and his wife Mary Lou Sells Curran grew up in the mid-west, and enjoyed a long and wonderful life together. After marrying they moved to Houston, TX, where they began raising their 3 sons: Jeff (Marci) Cottonwood Heights, UT; Jim (Caryn) of Carlsbad, CA; and Peter (Jennifer) of Round Rock, TX. Their sons have been their greatest joy. They later moved to the San Fransisco Bay Area, where they lived for 35 years before retiring to Sun City, Georgetown, TX in 2003. Bob spent a lifetime in the retail business, first with J.C. Penney Co., then as a Buyer for Joske's Department Stores; he then branched out as Owner of "A. E. Cramer, Ltd., and R.D. Curran, Ltd.", a set of fine gift and luggage stores located adjacent to Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, and in Los Altos, CA. A passionate sports enthusiast, Bob loved rooting for his favorite professional teams. Yet his greatest passion was his family. A devoted father of three athletic sons, he was their most avid fan and never missed a meet, match, or game. Especially dear to him was his sister Mildred Alberts (Houston, TX), her son Alan (Annette), and Alan's children, Brian and Lauren. A family reunion held last summer in Oregon was attended by 71 family members, who lovingly refer to Bob as "The Dude". He will be greatly missed by his family, including grandchildren Ben (Jamie), Caitlin (Nathan), Jenna, Jaci, Joseph, Hannah, Hailey, and Hans, his great-granddaughter Charlotte, and many very special nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown, TX on June 23, 2012 at 1:00 pm. The Reverend Chris Kenney will be officiating the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either Grace Episcopal Church of Georgetown, or The Rotary Club International, with a request to support their efforts toward the worldwide eradication of polio. You are invited to leave a message or memory in the memorial guestbook at www.RamseyFuneral.com.
