Robert Eugene Naas, age 87, of Norris City, Illinois, passed away on October 18, 2024 Born on January 20, 1937, in Equality, Illinois, he lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a genuine passion for serving his community and family.
Robert's career as an electrician spanned an impressive 36 years. He began his journey at Inland Steel in Gary, Indiana, where he worked diligently for 11 years. He then transitioned to Alcoa, where he continued to apply his expertise for another 25 years. Beyond his profession, Robert was also a devoted farmer, nurturing a greenhouse and running a farm market for 25 enriching years. This commitment to both industry and agriculture exemplified his robust work ethic and his connection to the land. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #232. And will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Lee (Wargel) Naas. Their bond was a cornerstone of his life, reflecting a partnership built on love and mutual support. Robert is also survived by his children: Carla Jane (Bill) Rister, Joyce Ann Turpin, Gary Eugene (Becky) Naas, Jerome Robert (Diane) Naas, Tamela Lea Naas, Dianne Marie (Steve) Taylor, and Timothy Edward (Lisa) Naas. His legacy continues through his 23 grandchildren, who brought him immense joy, and his 38 great-grandchildren, who will cherish his memory for years to come. And a great-granddaughter who will join the family in January.
In addition to his immediate family, Robert is survived by his sisters, MaryAnn (John) Sowels and Donna (Troy) Clifford, Brothers Richard (Paula) Naas; Michael and (Cathy) Naas; Denny (Marlene) Naas; David (Shirley) Naas and Larry (Chris) Naas who will carry on his spirit within their hearts.
Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Naas; and Carl Naas and an unborn child, who have been welcomed home.
Family, friends, and the entire community are invited to celebrate Robert's life. Visitation will be held at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway on October 21, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM. A Chalice service will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, October 21, 2024, and A Mass in honor of Robert will take place at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish on October 22, 2024, at 10 AM.
Robert Naas leaves behind a legacy of hard work and loving commitment to his family. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
