A father, a husband, a mentor, a partner, a friend. Robert (Bob) C. Trisko was extraordinary, a rare gem who was an eternal optimist and exuded genuine joy, wonderment and dynamic energy that will be etched deep in the memories of all those who crossed his path.
Bob Trisko passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the youthful age of 76.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be at Benson Funeral Home on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. With Bob's luminous life, the family encourages visitors to wear vibrant colors to the visitation and service.
Bob was born on July 16, 1947, at Melrose Hospital to Bernard (Ben) and Veronica Trisko (Spehn) of Greenwald, MN. Growing up, Bob enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and creating dishes in the kitchen. He attended Melrose High School and obtained bachelor's degrees in art and mathematics from St. Cloud State College. He held a variety of jobs during this time including working at the Del Monte canning plant, Fandel's Department Store, and the St. Cloud Parks Department. He would later obtain a master's degree plus 45 credits in sculpture from St. Cloud State College. Bob assumed he would pursue an occupation in architecture, but quickly realized it was not his true calling and he set out to be a public-school teacher.
In 1970, he began teaching art and math at South Junior High School in St. Cloud and would continue as an educator over the next 12 years. He had a tremendous love for teaching and was often described as a student favorite. Bob saw his students' unique strengths and encouraged them to exercise their creativity. Years later he would be approached by many former students who remembered how much joy and passion he brought to the classroom. During this time, he also began tinkering with jewelry making using horseshoe nails, and would soon graduate to gold, silver and precious stones to build his creations. What was initially a hobby would soon grow into an elaborate business and career that would span over 50 years. While teaching full-time, Bob launched Trisko Jewelry Sculptures in 1973, which offered innovative custom jewelry to the public. Both modern and functional, he created wearable art. He began entering various juried art fairs and competitions throughout the country. Through the decades he would go on to win hundreds of awards. Some of his most notable distinctions include being selected in 1986 as a top U.S.A. artist to exhibit designs in an international show in Paris, France; being accepted into the Smithsonian Arts & Crafts Exhibition held in Washington, D.C. in both 1997 and 2005; and his work was featured in the highly regarded Lapidary Journalin 2000 and 2002. Although he valued the accolades, he was by far more honored that the jewelry he created was a part of a customer's celebratory event, a special milestone, or even aided in someone's grief.
His business and subsequent travels would allow him to meet and form lasting relationships with thousands of people from all walks of life. These connections and special bonds were what brought such pleasure and success to his business.
In 1973, he would marry Helen Vossen of Watkins and go on to have two children, Joshua (1981) and Jenna (1983). As the kids grew, he shared with them his love of nature and entomology. He had a grand sense of humor which he passed down to his children. He was also actively involved in their many hobbies and school activities. Helen and Bob also shared a passion for art and real estate and would purchase and renovate many properties together throughout the years.
Beyond all his personal and professional successes, Bob was a larger-than-life guy, flashy yet incredibly humble and down-to-earth. If you ever saw him, you were guaranteed to always be greeted with the warmest of smiles. He was approachable and incredibly funny. He loved to talk with people no matter what the topic. As his children became adults, he was notorious for calling them with the most random of thoughts just to have an opportunity to connect. He was not a fan of technology, so he was always mailing letters, cards, and little trinkets just to say he was thinking about them.
His favorite song was "Don't Worry Be Happy" which became a life motto. He was a big personality with a heart to match. He impacted so many lives, whether through his jewelry or just a random casual conversation. He lived fully up until the very end. It was a tremendous gift to know him, to be surrounded by his passionate and vibrant energy. He was truly a rare gem.
As the great American Humorist, Erma Bombeck once said, "When I stand before Godat the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me." Bob certainly did just that.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ben and Veronica Trisko. He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Josh (Brittany); daughter, Jenna (Benjamin); grandchildren Regan, Max, and Ayden; former daughter-in-law, Angela "Angie" (mother of grandchildren Regan and Max); along with his five brothers and sisters: Renee Heutmaker (Art), Karen Meagher (Joe), Glen (Yvonne), Gerald (Linda), and Deborah Eich (Ken).
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tri-County Humane Society, Ruff Start Rescue, St. Benedicts Monastery, and any arts-related non-profits. If flowers are preferred, please avoid lilies as Bob was allergic.

Went to an art show today 9/27/25 at the greater Philadelphia expo center in Oaks,PA. Dawn from Handjive clothing was appearing for her final farewell to the Art shows as she's retiring. We spoke of the many vendors we've known through Sugarloaf festivals and by far Bob Trisko came to my mind 1st. I am not rich by no means, but determined to own just one piece of Art from this outstanding designer. Each year I would make a point to go and see what new creations he brought to life. He genuinely would want to know all about you as he loved to conversate with people all over the states he traveled. To this day over 15yrs of knowing Bob & Ian i own 5 of his rings & one bangle bracelet. It was such a shock to hear from Dawn that Bob had passed. I am so deeply saddened beyond belief not only for myself but Ian, Helen, Josh ,Jenna and his grandkids in whom he spoke so highly of at the shows. I thank my God for the opportunity to have known such a wonderful man, I hope to see him in God's Eternal Kingdom

I miss you - your smiling face at all the art fairs. I knew where you would be and always stopped to visit. Aside from the 14 rings you made for me and the special pendant you designed and re-designed my wedding ring- I have you in my thoughts. The world was a better place with you in it!

Bob was my freshman jewelry and math professor in 1973. I literally ran into Bob at an art show in Memorial Park in Houston in 1995. He helped we redesign my late husbands wedding ring and my wedding ring into a new beautiful Trisko design
I have a beautiful 30 years of memories and designs of "Trisko Fine Jewelry ". But the most precious is the memories of how special he and his team are and such great designers and always always smiling and having fun!
His work is legendary. I was walking in Boulder Co at an art show and a vendor literarily ran down the street asking me if I was wearing a "Trisko" ring.
There is not a week that goes by that I don´t have out his name email to people that ask who made my rings? He was a "rare gem"

My husband and I first met Bob at Artfest in Dallas in 1990. His display was crowded and I pressed in to take a look. When I returned to my not-yet husband, he asked if there was anything interesting and I said that he had some interesting wedding sets. We had not yet looked at wedding rings, but Stan said we´d come back around before we left to take a look at them and indeed we did! Standing there, we selected a set and asked ourselves if we should order them, figuring we´d never find anything else we liked as much. But we took that leap and ordered them and have received many comments about them over the years. As we attended the Cottonwood Art Festival, we´d always stop by to see what´s new in Bob´s display and say hello. We will miss seeing him. Our deepest condolences go to Bob´s family and team. His display at the next Cottonwood Festival will seem sad without his radiant smile.

I just read the news. I am so very sorry to hear about Robert´s passing. I first met Robert at the Oakbrook Art Show. I followed him and his exhibitions for years and finally had my dream come true when I asked him to design wedding rings for my husband and myself. People always remark on how beautiful they are and I have met other people that were impressed with his designs and big heart. I will miss seeing him at the show.

My prayers go out to his family and friends.

As a fellow jeweler on the art festival circuit, I have many memories of "Trisko." He was a mentor and friend. In our world, Trisko paved the way for other jewelers to follow and did it with unmatched charm. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Bob was a wonderful person-kind, loving, always willing to share his art with others. I purchased many things from him over the last 24 years, but I visited him at any and all places in Chicagoland and suggested he go to the Naperville Art Fair, which he did. He was a good friend, always interested in the lives of others. I will miss him. I will miss our discussions. I will miss his smiling face. May his memory be a blessing.

My husband and I are very sorry to hear of Bob´s passing. He was such a talented, inspiring and kind person. The first ring Bob made for me was to create a ring using my first diamond, small diamonds from my husband´s wedding ring and a diamond from my an older ring. After that I was a pretty regular collector! I have quite a few rings, bracelets and pendants Bob created for me! I cherish them all! My daughter and her husband´s wedding sets were crafted by Bob over 25 years ago.
He was truly an artist. Condolences to his family and coworkers.

So sorry to hear of Bob’s passing.
Met him in Chicago in 1992, bought wedding rings, had him do other jewelry repairs and purchased other jewelry, lived 1.5 hours away from him in MN years later and saw him this past spring in Fl twice. Just seemed like an old friend.
He will be missed in many ways.

My memories of Bob ("Frisky") go back to high school in Melrose, MN. He and I were both percussionists in band......and did we ever have fun! Bob loved to laugh and tell jokes. We also had a number of art classes together. We stayed acquainted through all of the years after high school. I am so fortunate to have some pieces of his jewelry and plan to pass them on to my grandchildren. Bob was truly a gem and will be missed by many.

When BOB was teaching art at South junior high and my wife, Kathy was a teaching assistant. We wore some of his horseshoe nail necklaces. It seemed that he always had a smile on his face.

Mr Trisko (because no matter how old I get, he will always be Mr Trisko) was my art teacher at North Jr High, the last or second to last year that he taught. What I remember most is how welcoming he was and that he always had a kind word and a nudge of encouragement for those of us struggling. I still remember the sculpture I made (but didn´t quite finish), the only art project I have any recollection of at all.
He also remade my mother´s wedding ring in the early 80´s, a bit more understated than his later work, a truly beautiful and unique piece of art she wears to this day.

I had the pleasure to have met Bob at one of his shows and bought some of his beautiful pieces. He was my husband´s art teacher, who had nothing but positive things to say about him. He will be greatly missed by many!!

I met Robert at...where else...the Uptown Art Fair well over 20 years ago. As a divorced working lady I couldn´t afford his beautiful designs but that didn´t stop me!! I went on to own several of his pieces and would constantly get stopped by people who would compliment and inquire about my "unique" jewelry. I sent many customers to him. His personality was bigger than life and he would get tickled when people said that he looked like Rod Stewart! I always looked forward to chatting with him over the years! What a full life he had!!!! He was "bigger than life" and will be truly missed. The Uptown Art Fair will never be the same without his effervescent personality and wit and stories! Deep sympathy and condolences to his family. He was a GEM!!!!!!

Our wedding rings were made by Bob and won a national gold award in the 80s, and I have at least 6 other custom rings and my husband has one. We have always loved and admired his work and have come back for more jewelry even though we left the St. Cloud area more than 25 years ago. I always get compliments on the rings. We saw him at shows in Dallas and other places during our travels. He was always humble and gracious. We were so shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers to your family.

The last time I saw him, he was telling the police lady guard the story of Allan and I and how we met at an art show and he loved seeing us hold hands and teased us about it. That's the kind of person he was. It was always about the others around him, not himself. He was extremely kind and wonderful, he will be missed. So sorry for the family. Love sent to to the family Barbara Krupp and Allan Teger

I first met Bob as a seventh grader at South Jr. High. He was my favorite teacher, everyone was an artist in his eyes! He gave permission to experiment and find your inner talent. As I grew older we again connected through his jewelry. His work inspired and thrilled! Everyone knows it´s a "TRISKO" Bob was a kind man and loved spreading his art throughout the country. He always returned home and never forgot where he was from. He told me once his gems would far outlive him and go onto bring beauty and art. Peace to his family and may Bob live on in his work forever. A great artist, a better man. Kathy Lahr

I met Robert a long time ago and he was the most genuine, generous, talented beyond belief person. I would go every year to see him at Cottonwood. He made me a custom ring, not to mention the others that I bought. We all loved him and are devastated to hear this as I was a Cottonwood this past weekend and found out. It made us so sad and shocked, we had to leave. He was truly amazing. Jill
