On July 10th, 2023, Rogelio Augustine Samuels Sr., affectionately known as "Sam," passed away at the age of 71. Born on July 20th, 1951, in Colon, Panama, he was the beloved child of Tilindia Waddell and Rodolfo Samuels.
From a young age, Sam embraced his faith and became a follower of Christ. He actively served in the military, having been a part of the United States Army and Air National Guard. It was in 1971 that he crossed paths with Vestella, the love of his life. Sam found joy in cruising, traveling, playing spades, cherishing his dogs, fostering friendships, and, above all, spending quality time with his extended family.
As an entrepreneur, Sam owned a janitorial service, and he also held the esteemed position of an Ordained Minister in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sam was a sociable and outgoing individual, known for his love for people, his free-spirited nature, and his selflessness. Irrespective of the time, Sam excelled in the art of attentive listening, making everyone feel valued and extraordinary. He possessed the knack for uncovering positivity even in unfavorable circumstances, often culminating in lighthearted moments. Sam championed others, applauding their achievements, and consistently demonstrated a keen eagerness to express the depth of his appreciation for their presence. Familiarity with him was synonymous with developing a deep affection for him.
Sam is preceded in death by his mother, Tilindia Waddell, his father, Rodolfo Samuels, his stepmother, Irene, his son, Rogelio Augustine Samuels Jr., and his daughter, Jewel Nicole Samuels-Gonzalez.
Sam is survived by his devoted wife, Vestella Samuels, residing in Glenpool, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his daughters: Jacqueline (Cory) Jackman from Bordentown, New Jersey; Tanja (Byron) Chambers from Dallas, Texas; Keisha (Nigel) Wells and Angela Samuels, both from Glenpool, Oklahoma; Nayoka Thomas from Bronx, New York. Additionally, he is survived by 27 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Among his surviving relatives are his brothers: Bobby (Sylvia) Baldonado and Ernesto Legister, both from Brooklyn, New York, and Mario Samuels from Panama City, Panama. Sam also had special cousins, including Theo, Veronica, Amelia, and Alicia, as well as a lifelong childhood friend named Roberto. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members who will hold his memory dear. View Sam's Service
