It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rosaria Delmonico, at the age of 87. Rosaria passed in the early hours of Friday morning, December 9th, 2022, at North Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.
She was love. She was giving. She was family.
Rosaria was a true love that passed but will always be in the hearts of everyone she knew. Knowing that she loved you gave you the comfort and feeling of being blessed with a special gift that was constant and unwavering. It was neither a quiet nor a boastful love, but a proud one that your heart used in all its times of happiness and struggles. It was there to lean on and one of the many parts of her beautiful soul. Simply put, you knew you were loved when you were loved by Rosaria.
Rosaria's capacity to give was endless. It's who she was as a person and it was her first nature to give unselfishly. To pause and think how much she gave to others makes you feel humbled to have known her, to have been part of that giving and is something you can carry forward.
But the heart of Rosaria was family, both immediate and extended. She was the oldest of six children, and grew up with her parents surrounded by love. Being part of a large Italian family, Rosaria was one who led by example, and always put her family first. Family and friends described her as the one who provided guidance, protection and strength to her siblings and cousins. This bond with her family was an unbreakable, true love that still lasts today, and one passed down to her own children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. All of her family are blessed with this most generous and unconditional love. A love that cannot be expressed with words. This is one of many gifts she gave us.
Rosaria was born and lived the majority of her life in Norwich, NY. She and her family were faithful Catholics, who spent much of their time attending and volunteering with St. Bartholomew's Church. In highschool, she participated in the Debate Team, the Girls Athletic Council, Girls Glee Club and the Editorial staff for the school newspaper. Following graduation from high school in 1953, she went on to earn an RN degree from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY in 1956. She eagerly began her medical career working as a Surgical Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she met and wed her then husband, Dr. Michael Delmonico. Together, they were blessed with five children. Rosaria was an active member of the Norwich community; President of the PTA Club, a member of the Chenango County Council of the Arts and a devoted and much loved volunteer of the Donna Decker School of Ballet. Her first priority though, was her children. She was a devoted mother who was always passionately providing what was needed for all of them as they grew. Rosaria was always there at her children's sporting events, art shows, piano recitals, marching band, and ballet performances. As all of her children gradually left home to pursue their own careers, she was quick to re-established her Nursing career working both at Chenango Memorial Hospital, and managing Dr. Delmonico's medical practice.
In 1997, Rosaria began the next chapter of her life, and moved to Raleigh, NC to be closer to her children. She lived independently for many years where she continued to work in the medical field and also volunteered for the WakeMed Rehab department. Rosaria lived with all her children at one time or another, being the live-in sitter and providing guidance and support to her children as they learned to be parents too.
.
Just like her name, Rosaria's favorite flower was the Rose and her favorite color red. She was an independent woman who did everything by herself. She had many passions and hobbies. Her cooking was enjoyed for years by family and friends with her recipes handed down to the next generations. She knitted blankets and scarves and gave them to all her grandchildren. She filled the family home and her own place with an abundance of flowers and plants in which she proudly displayed. She loved to watch the birds, deer, and squirrels, feed in her backyards
Rosaria provided us all with memories that will last forever.
Rosaria was predeceased by her mother and father, Rose and Joseph Maiurano; her brother James Maiurano, sister Catherine Stewart (Kenneth), and nephew Joseph E. Maiurano; Children Paul Delmonico, Micheal Delmonico, Beth Kostovolos (Matthew), Joseph Delmonico, Jon Delmonico(Christie); Grandchildren Alicia D'Andria (Michael), Michael DelMonico (Anna), Peter Kotosovlos, Zoe Kotsovolos, Alexandra DelMonico, Sophia DelMonico, Bronte DelMonico, Aidan DelMonico, Peyton DelMonico; Great grandchildren; Molly Chalmers, Matthew Chalmers, and Madison D'Andria; Siblings Mary Fern (Richard), Francis Maiurano (Carol), Joseph Maiurano (Dawn).
