Salvatore Peter Giambanco, of Norwood, MA formerly of Westwood, MA, was born on 10/15/37 and passed on 3/21/22 surrounded by his loving family. Peter married Janice Jennette on May 23,1964 in St. Mary's Church in Dedham. Together, they raised six much loved children – Peter II, Mark (Kelley), Marie Ryan (Jake), Gregg (Deb), Juli, and Jan Morrell (Kenny). He leaves his adored grandchildren – Cullen, Alyssa, Devon, Victoria, Kayla, Peter III, Cameron, Amanda, Megan, Kyle, Alison, Jaden and Maren. The son of Jeannette and Peter Giambanco, he was born on his parent's anniversary and they always celebrated the date together. Peter was the second of four children, the late Marie Fabiano (Joseph), Judi Zizza (Anthony), and Steven (Susan). Peter graduated from Dedham High School in 1955 and attended Stonehill College, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He retired after 30 years from State Street Bank in Boston as a Vice President in 1998. Peter joined the United States Army Reserve in 1961 and served for 6 years. His love of baseball saw Peter play Legion ball in Dedham, where he was selected Most Valuable Player in 1955. He was Captain of the Varsity baseball team at Stonehill College and donated his letter sweater to the college where it is framed and hangs in Alumni Hall. Peter played for the Slingtown Sluggers in Westwood for over 28 years and was selected Most Valuable Player in 1964. He also bowled in Norwood from 1961 through 2010. A faithful communicant, Peter was an usher at St. Denis Church in Westwood for over 30 years and also taught CCD. He was very involved with his children as a baseball coach. After his retirement, he found himself more than busy with his grandchildren, doing home repairs for his children and completely refurbishing his in-laws' house. He enjoyed golf, playing his white baby grand piano, assisting Janice in their family Day Care as a licensed provider and many more enjoyable activities. He and Janice spent many wonderful trips in their travel trailer travelling to Prince Edward Island, Canada, Scusset Beach and many places in between. During the winter months they spent six years at The Villages in Florida, enjoying numerous activities with friends. Peter will be remembered as an attentive son, loving husband, excellent father, and adoring grandfather. He took pride in everything that his kids and grandchildren were involved in and kept close contact with each of them and their activities and accomplishments. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our family would like to thank Dr. Martha Wadleigh, Keysha Miralda, and Shawn Benson for the excellent care that they gave Peter over the past year at Dana Farber. Thank you also to all of our family and friends who have prayed for Peter's recovery. I have lost my soul mate and our children have lost the most wonderful father that anyone could be blessed with. In lieu of flowers, please give your donations to the Linda A. and Francis X. Dillon Scholarship Fund at Stonehill College. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood on Sunday, March 27 from 4 – 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 28 at 11:00 am in St. Denis Church, 157 Washington St., Westwood. Interment with military honors at New Westwood Cemetery.

We are sad to hear of Peter's passing. The entire Giambanco family is in our thoughts and prayers. We had the good fortune of living next door to Peter and Jan for several years. We enjoyed their friendliness and their incredible enthusiasm and zest for life and their family. Our lives are all better having known Peter.

Memories of Peter go back many years to high school or bumping into one another around town,. He was an amazing athlete, family man, brother, and handyman. But most of all, I remember his devote love of his wife, Janice, his children and grandchildren. Janice, prayers are constant for your family and you. We just heard of his passing from a parishioner of St. Denis's Church this afternoon.

I will always remember the night Peter invited my Grandmother, my Aunts and my Mother to his home and he played all of my Mother's favorite songs on his new piano. He had learned them just for her. That act of kindness meant more to me than he ever knew.
I love you Peter. Rest in peace my dear Cousin

I can honestly say there was never a moment when my uncle and I had any kind of a disagreement my entire life.

If I close my eyes and visualize him he has that lasting smile I always knew. Unless of course he just put his 3rd ball in the water over a par 3 or was completely a 4 putt on the green, that was a very different look :) Yet he always kept his composure and moved on to the next hole.

I am so grateful for our time together as family and as golfers, he would pretty much crack a joke on every tee box and I never got tired of it.

I will miss him dearly, I will miss his handyman skills, his jokes, and his advise.

Rest in Peace Uncle Peter I love You , Chris Zizza
