Sheryl Street Cabot, aged 68, passed away at her home in Groton, Massachusetts on November 22, 2024, after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
Sherry was raised in Lincoln MA, attending Lincoln Sudbury High School, then earning a B.A. in Business from Skidmore College in 1978. Occasionally Sherry would speak of the harrowing event she experienced at Skidmore when her dormitory caught fire during the night. She and her roommate awoke to a smoke-filled scene. Placing wet towels over their heads, she led herself and her roommate to safety by crawling through smoke-filled hallways and stairwells to an outside door they were able to open. Others that chose different routes were not so lucky. Sherry's strong intuition guided her in many different scenarios throughout her life.
After college, Sherry settled in the Albany NY area working as a Social Security Analyst. She eventually became reacquainted with her college sweetheart, Marshal Cabot, when her father invited her former boyfriend over for Easter dinner, unbeknownst to her. The magic was still there and the two married the following January. Sherry and her five-year-old daughter from her first marriage, Audra, moved to their new home in Concord MA. Sherry and Marshal had two more daughters, Amanda and Heather, raising all three girls in Concord. While raising the girls Sherry also worked as a Montessori and nursey schoolteacher as well as volunteering at Emerson Hospital.
Sherry was an excellent skier, perfecting her skills early in life in the mountains of New Hampshire, as well as one trip to Switzerland. More recently, she adored skiing with her granddaughters at Nashoba Valley. She loved playing tennis and paddle tennis with her many friends at the Concord Country Club. She particularly enjoyed beating all her challengers in ping pong and took considerable pride in the many men's tournaments she won at our family camp, Sandy Island.
Sherry also enjoyed "lake living." She felt fortunate to spend time at their vacation home on Pine River Pond in New Hampshire. She had particularly fond memories of riding on the back of a jet ski, driven much too fast by her husband, and laughing through screams. As empty nesters, Sherry and Marshal moved to Groton to fulfill Sherry's long-time wish of living on a lake.
There was nothing Sherry loved more than her family. Whether she was organizing a holiday dinner or a ping pong tournament, she wanted it to be fun for all. She was beloved by her eight grandchildren who received an overwhelming number of gifts of clothes, costumes, toys, and crafts throughout the year, and more importantly, an overwhelming amount of love from their Nini.
Sherry leaves her husband Marshal Cabot of Groton MA and three daughters; Audra Knight of Woodstock CT, Amanda Dolins of Groton MA, and Heather Cabot Chappell of Charleston SC. She leaves her sister Sue Peterson of Harwich MA, two brothers, Darrell Street of Lawrence MA, and Duncan Street of Harwich MA, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sherry's life will be celebrated during a memorial service at Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord in the spring of 2025. The date and time will be shared on Dee Funeral Home's website once finalized.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sherry's honor may be made to Emerson Health Foundation, 133 ORNAC,
