Susan Marie Cook, known affectionately by many as Sue, passed away on December 1, 2023 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
She was born on October 13, 1956, in Corning, NY to James E. and Mary Lou Smith. A lifelong resident of Corning, Susan's empathetic spirit and thoughtful nature touched many lives in her 67 years.
Susan married her loving husband, Daniel Cook, on February 5, 1977, and together they created a beautiful life centered around their family. In addition to her devoted husband, Daniel, Susan is survived by her daughter, Melissa Cook; granddaughters, Gina, Gillian, and Gianna Babcock; brothers: Stephen (Patricia), Paul (Marie), Leon (Carrie), and James (Robin Wilson) Smith; her dear sister, Dodie (Kyle) Briggs; brothers-in-law, Dennis Cook (Sheila) and David Cook; sister-in-law, Mary Wilson (Bill); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sue also had the best life-long friends, Sherry Perkins, Ingrid Breniman, and David Maurice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved nephew, Timothy J. Smith and sister-in-law, Patricia Cook.
Throughout her life, Susan brought joy and comfort to those around her. She was a spirited waitress in the food service industry, having proudly served at The Lodge on the Green, Holiday Inn, Pizza Hut, Boomers, and Spencer's, from where she retired. Her witty humor and warm demeanor made her popular among customers and colleagues alike. Outside of work, Susan loved watching the Giants and Yankees, observing birds and wildlife, and extending her love and support to her family and friends. Susan's unconditional love for her family was paramount, and she often used social media to encourage, support, and pray for her loved ones.
Per Susan's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Private services will be held at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org.
