Phenix City native Terry Lannis Kinney, 84, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died Thursday, July 13, in an Atlanta hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Born on February 13, 1939, Terry was a lifelong resident of Phenix City. He graduated from Central High School and Chattahoochee Valley Community College. Terry worked at Westrock (formerly Mead Coated Board) for 36 years. Terry served as a member of the Board of Directors of Mead Coated Board Federal Credit Union for over 40 years up until his death, serving as President for a portion of that time.
He was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 68 years. Terry was a talented musician and an active and loyal member of the church choir for as long as his health would allow. He also sang with the Lakewood Baptist Church Amen Choir for many years.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 28 years, Lynda Davis Kinney; one brother, Eugene Lee Kinney, and his wife Arlyn; three sons, Terry Lance Kinney and his wife, Usha, Jason Mark Kinney, and Matthew Dudley Kinney; two daughters, Carla Cole Penton and her husband, Sim, and Lori Cole Hadley, and her husband, Steven; five grandchildren, Rustin, Rachel, Hannah, Andrew, and Ellie; and one nephew, Eugene.
The Rev. Don Abrams and the Rev. Martha Lynn Montague Barrett (niece) will conduct the memorial service honoring Terry on Wednesday, July 19, at 11 AM EDT at Trinity United Methodist Church in Phenix City. The family will receive friends and guests one hour prior to the service.
Known for his contagious smile and cheerful disposition, Terry was a man of faith and integrity who cherished every day. Terry most enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, and watching Atlanta Braves baseball and University of Alabama football.
The family extends sincere appreciation to the physicians, nurses, and staff of Piedmont Hospital Atlanta for the excellent care and compassion provided Terry during the final days of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Terry's honor be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, the Phenix City-Russell County Library, or a charity of your choice.
