Jose Antonio Horna-Roman
Our well-loved husband, father, son, papa, brother, tio and friend passed away February 14, 2022, in the comfort of his home, after a 21-year battle with cancer. Tony was born April 3, 1951 in Pisco, Peru, the son of Manuel Horna Aguinaga and Carmen Raquel Roman Arteaga.
Tony spent his childhood in Peru, being raised among many siblings. He also had a close relationship with his stepmother Marina. His nickname while he was very young, was Pepe Antonio. He had fond childhood memories of spending time at the beach, attributing to his life-long love of the ocean and sun.
At the young age of 19, he left Peru and moved to the United States, choosing California as his home. Soon after arriving in the States, Tony found his niche working in the car industry. He loved cars and people. He was a hard worker and excelled because of this, as well as his knowledge and personality. He started by washing cars and climbed to the top of sales and management. He made many life-long friends during his career, which spanned 50 years.
During this time in California, he married Carol Morrison. They had three children, Roxanne, Nicole and Kevin. They later divorced. Family is what brought Tony to Utah. There his life changed dramatically when he was introduced to two young missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, who taught him the gospel. Joining the Church gave him a new perspective on life as he learned about Heavenly Father's love for him and the Plan of Salvation.
In Utah he met Mera Lee Anderson. They had a whirlwind romance and were married a year later in the South Jordan Temple. They had two children, Alexandria and Chandler.
He loved cooking. and eating. When he would describe his food preparation it would cause one to salivate.
Tony had many callings in the church. He loved teaching and learning the gospel, along with the primary children. His simple testimony was reflected in his favorite primary songs, I Am a Child of God and I Know that the Savior Loves Me. He was also a great example to the young men he served and continued to be an influence throughout their lives.
Tony enjoyed many activities with his family. He was a favorite "TIO" to his many nieces and nephews. He loved the many family trips and vacations to Lake Powell, the fish farm, backyard swim parties, cruising, and getaways to the Heber City family "cabin." He loved his role of Papa to his grandchildren.
Tony learned the importance of family and relationships through his experiences. He was heartbroken at the premature loss of his 18-year-old son, Chandler, and again his wife, Mera Lee. But we rejoice at their reunion.
Recently, he married Mar Gene Anderson. They had planned to spend time traveling, but unfortunately, Covid hit then his health declined. Mar Gene was grateful for the time they had together and to be able to care for and comfort him.
He will greatly be missed by those of us who remain behind, but we know he was warmly welcomed by many more family members on the other side.
He was preceded in death by his father, stepmother, wife, son, and five siblings. He is survived by his mom, Raquel Horna-Arteaga; wife, Mar Gene Anderson; children, Alexandria Richter (Matt), Roxanne Roman (Art), Nicole Love (Kelly), Kevin Roman (Susana); grandchildren, Saige Lee Richter, Cael Richter, Kaden Richter, Quinn Richter, Julian Perkins, Connor Roman; siblings, Manolo Horna-Camero, Marina Horna-Camero, Roxana Horna-Camero, Patti Arteaga, Marcela Doran (Bernie), Mirtha Rasmussen (Paul), Renee Arteaga; in-laws, Mari Lynn Cook (Bob), Michael Anderson, (Lois), and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

So sorry for your family's loss of such a great man and sweet father, grandfather, husband, son, brother and all of his other titles.

Everyone that knew Tony loved him. Always kind, empathetic, and always glad to see you. How he loved his Primary kids or YM boys. And how he loved his family! We are so blessed to have known him. Sorry for the big hole he will leave, and at the same time what wonderful memories he has left everyone with.

We love all the Romans!!
