Ulysee "Bubba" Washington, 85, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025 at York North Skilled Nursing & Rehab. He was the husband of Beverly M. (Johnson) Washington to whom he was married for 41 years.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 9-10:30 a.m. with the service starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion United Church of Christ, 100 Lafayette Street, York with Pastor Vanessa Hopkins officiating.Burial will be following the service at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Born September 5, 1939 in Bamburg, SC; a son of the late Nathaniel and Annie L. (McMillan) Washington and Ollie Wiggins Dowling Washington; Mr. Washington retired from Bullseye Express where he was a long-haul truck driver. Over the years, Bubba also owned and operated his own tractor and trailers for long haul operations and earned numerous safe driving awards during his career. He was a member of Fairview F.G.M. Baptist Church and served as an Elder in the Church and had previously been a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Bubba was a member of the Mighty Aires Gospel singing group and was very active and purposeful with his street ministry, Highways and Hedges Ministry, which helped feed and support the homeless in York. In his younger years, Bubba was an avid golfer and still enjoyed watching golf tournaments on TV.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Washington is survived by two sons, Dana Chisolm of Columbia, SC and Chad Washington of York; two stepsons, Valentino Henderson of York and Keith "Tad" Henderson, Jr. and wife Christi of York; a stepdaughter, Kali and husband Travis Layer of York; four grandchildren, Azaira, Aja, and Alaia Washington, Amaya Stokes; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two brothers, Benjamin Washington and Stanley Washington, both of York; two sisters, Dorothy Carroll of Wilmington, NC and Martha Ford of York; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Aleksandria Padgett; his step mother, Ollie Wiggins Dowling Washington; and 17 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beverly Washington, 3715 Tiffany Dr., Dover, PA 17313.
