Bill at work was a fine example of "old-school" Battelle--friendly and scholarly with a positive attitude and a strong sense of integrity.
I admired that Bill was still going strong in late years--I remember traveling on a consulting task with him about 5 years ago, and he was sharp as ever. He'll be missed.

I worked with Bill and Betty Glaeser during my years at WOSU Public Media. They donated their time every fundraiser. I enjoyed every moment I was able to spend with them. My sympathy and prayers to the family.

I first met Bill when he joined the Thursday morning painting class at the Cultural Arts Center in 1984. Through the years I found him to be the kindest, most mature, creative....nice guy I've ever known. I will miss him

So sad to hear of Bill's passing. He helped me learn tribology when I was a grad student with Dave Rigney at OSU. Bill's vast contributions to the field, his good cheer, and his kindness to us meant a lot. My wife Evelyn and I will deeply miss him.

I was a volunteer at WOSU PBS with Bill & Betty and enjoyed all the time we volunteered together. Because of my health I had to move to Marysville in 2007 and never saw them again, but I have missed them both all these years.

While I never had the honor to meet Bill in person, he was so kind enough to offer his time and expertise to thoroughly edit a tribology book chapter I wrote a few years back. At that time, he was retired and coming in part time to Battelle Labs. He had such positive feedback and I couldn't thank him enough when I received his comments. I wish I could have met him to personally thank him.

Bill was one of the most likeable people I have met. It was always a pleasure to interact with him. Bill helped me considerably when I transitioned to tribology. His wealth of knowledge, skill and experience were very impressive and he shared it often.

We have lost a true role model of a gentleman and a scholar. Bill was my primary mentor at Battelle, at the beginning and throughout my Tribology career. Though his knowledge of our field was probably greater than that of many of the other top tribologists combined, he never showed the least bit of conceit or arrogance or ego in this regard, and willingly shared his knowledge with complete generosity and kindness to any and all who asked. He was a great mentor in the truest sense of the word.
Bill also shared his artwork willingly and extensively, inviting us to showings at the Cultural Arts Center and to the Clintonville Arts Guild exhibits and sales. We looked forward every winter to Bill's annual hand-made holiday greeting cards. I have posted one of his cards and a photo, taken around 1996 in the Pacific Northwest, a place reminiscent of the peace of mind and spirit which Bill brought to those fortunate enough to spend any time with him. It was a joy to have known him.

Bill was a role model for everyone who had the good fortune of working with him. The definition of integrity, competency, and determination in meeting all of his commitments. And above all he was a first-class gentleman with a kind, friendly nature and easy smile. What a difference he made!
