Wilma A. "Sis" Ruccio
'Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews'
Wilma "Sis" (Taylor) Ruccio, 102, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at her home after a brief illness. She was married to the love of her life, Anthony 'Tinny' Ruccio, for 48 years.
Wilma was born on April 29, 1920 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Wilfred and Adele (Noble) Taylor. She grew up in the Cotton Hollow section of Naugatuck and was a lifelong borough resident. She attended local schools before beginning her working career. Wilma retired from the Peter Paul Company after 27 years of service, where she worked on one of the many production lines during the heyday of the company. Her time at Peter Paul was shared by her husband, Tinny, who was employed at the company for 49 years before his retirement.
Wilma was a longtime New York Yankees and UCONN Women's basketball fan. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed identifying the various types of birds found outside her window or at the feeder in her backyard. Wilma spent many of her younger days, growing a variety of vegetables in a garden that she maintained with her husband. One of her favorite pastimes was spent taking in the horse races at Green Mountain racetrack in Vermont or at Saratoga, NY, during its summer racing season.
Wilma is survived by her many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, who all affectionately referred to her as "Aunt Sis". She had a joy for life and a special way about her that endeared her to all the many friends of the family that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Wilma was predeceased by her sisters Adele (Della), Ruth, Leona, Dorothy (Dot), Mildred (Snookie), and by her brothers Franklin, Harry, twin Wilfred (Bill), Hartley, and Kenneth (Ken). She was also predeceased by her many sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws on both sides of the family.
The family would like to recognize the loving care given to Wilma, by her nephew, Paul Ruccio, during her later years. Wilma's family would also like to thank her live-in aide, Cathy Pipim, who provided her with excellent and compassionate care over the past three years. Her family is also thankful for the care and comfort provided by VITAS Healthcare during Wilma's last days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan 13, 2023 at 12:30pm at St. Francis Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Cross St., Naugatuck. Calling hours will take place on Friday from 10am to 12pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
