Winifred Utterback Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 20 to Apr. 22, 2023.
Winifred (Winnie) J. Utterback age 82 of Pigeon Forge Tennessee, was reunited on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 into eternity with her husband, Don, of 60 years after a brave battle. Winnie was born on September 17, 1940 in St. Louis Missouri. She graduated from Southwest Missouri State College with a BA in fine arts where she discovered her passion for pottery. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved family especially among her beautiful gardens. She will leave a legacy of kindness, a love for seeing and creating beauty, meeting people, traveling and enjoying all of God's created works. She was the family historian and enjoyed sharing stories of her life and childhood. Her adventurous spirit allowed her to enjoy life as a park ranger's wife living in various national parks. After years of raising her family, Winnie pursued a long held dream of becoming a potter. From her work at Pigeon Forge Pottery to her long affiliation with Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, the creation of Otter Creek Pottery and her 20 year partnership in the historic Cliff Dwellers Gallery, she became an accomplished potter. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by husband Don and parents, James and Myrtle Sampson. Winnie is survived by her sister, Marilyn (Carl) Norton, sister, Ginny (Sandy) Noe; 4 children, Paul (Julie) Utterback, Lane Utterback, Janna (Randall) Brien and David (Beth) Utterback; 6 grandchildren, Grayson and Carly Utterback, Jordan Brien, Sam, Will and Owen Utterback; loving in-laws, Betty (Jim) Harris; brother, Jim (Sue) Utterback; and a special life long friend, June (Virgil) Brinks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arrowmont Scholarship Fund at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, 556 Parkway, Gatlinburg, TN 37738. A Celebration of Life for Don and Winnie will be held at 1:00 PM on April 23, 2023 at the Twin Creeks Picnic Pavilion, Cherokee Orchard Rd., Gatlinburg, TN.
