Maria (Ruffino) Basile Naples, FL
Maria (Ruffino) Basile, of Naples, FL and Stamford, NY died at her home in Naples on Thursday, September 16, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was 82.
Born in Carini, Italy on June 5, 1928, a daughter of Giuseppe and Rose (Sgroia) Ruffino. Maria and her family immigrated to the United States in 1956 settling in Brooklyn, NY with their young family, Antonio, Giuseppa and Rosetta.
In 1960 Maria and Francesco and their three young children purchased a farm in upstate New York. In 1970 they opened their first successful restaurant in Oneonta, called Mama Nina's and followed by another restaurant in Stamford, NY called Mama Maria of which their grandchildren now operate.
Both she and her husband Francesco maintained their homes in Stamford, NY during the summer months and in Naples, FL during the winter for the past 13 years.
A devote catholic, Mrs. Basile was a communicant of St. William Catholic Church in Naples. She loved to travel and made many pilgrimages with the church, including, Italy, Israel, Portugal, Spain, France and Greece.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 65 years, Francesco Basile; five loving children, Antonio Basile, Giuseppa Basile, Joseph Basile, Rosetta Gallina and Frank Basile; one brother, Giuseppe Ruffino; three sisters, Rosa Gallina, Mima Nicastri and Mariana Basile; 11 dear grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation on Friday, September 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. William Catholic Church, 750 Seagate Drive at 2:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
Burial will follow.
Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions in Maria's name may be made to Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 17066, Baltimore, Maryland 21297 would be appreciated.
