Richard Oltmanns Naples, FL
Richard G. 'Dick' Oltmanns, 81, of Naples died January 13, 2014.
Formerly of Ypsilanti, MI where he had been a member of St Luke's Episcopal Church, he moved to Naples in 1988. Dick graduated from Eastern Michigan College with a Bachelor's degree in Education and Indiana University with a Master's degree in Audio Visual Education. He received a second Master's degree in Historic Preservation from Eastern Michigan University. He was also a faculty member at Eastern Michigan University where he taught for over 30 years. In addition to teaching, Dick was Director of the Audio Visual Department. He retired from EMU in 1988 as an Emeritus Professor.
He had been an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Naples and had served as Christian Education Director in addition to his work for the Church School. He had also served as Church Librarian. Dick and his first wife, Helen, founded the Library which was named for them in 2001. Dick was a photographer and studied under Ansel Adams. He was active with county 4-H groups in both Michigan and Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Rawls Oltmanns of Naples; son, William (Siretta) Oltmanns of Las Cruces, NM; mother-in-law, Clara Rawls; four grandchildren, Moriah (Christopher) Nixon, Jeremiah Oltmanns, Sarah (Phil) Kois, and David Cavallier and a great granddaughter, Fiona Nixon.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 3901 Davis Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
