Catherine Sadler Obituary

NEW BERN | Catherine "Cass" Sadler, age 87 of New Bern, NC, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014. Cass died peacefully at the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice Center at Vident Medical Center.
Cass was born to the late William and Catherine Tracy in Camden, New Jersey in 1927. She attended Camden Catholic High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jack Sadler, in 1948, shortly after he returned from service in World War II. The couple would relocate to Paulsboro and then to Glassboro, New Jersey where they raised their two sons Jay and Tom. Cass worked for RCA Corporation and then with the Bell Telephone which would become Bell Atlantic. She retired from Bell Atlantic after 40 years of service.
Shortly after retirement, Cass and Jack relocated to New Bern, North Carolina where they resided for over 18 years. Family was Cass' passion and delight. She enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren and her great grandson. A lifelong Roman Catholic, Cass was an active parishioner and member of the St. Paul Catholic Church community where she regularly attended mass. Cass was a talented craftswoman who enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting. She was active in the Twin River Quilters' Guild and seldom missed a Thursday meeting. She was active in many charitable and community service projects including the Bell Telephone Pioneers. Cass especially enjoyed their home on Wilson Creek where she spent many happy hours on her back porch relaxing and pursing her interest as an avid backyard wild bird enthusiast.
Cass is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jack, their two sons Jay and Tom, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 26, 2014, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club Road, New Bern, North Carolina. Family and friends are invited to attend. A viewing will be held at the church beginning at 10 a.m. with a Rosary prayer service to follow at 11:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be held at 12 p.m. with the burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the many health care professionals and volunteers who cared for Cass during her last days. Donations may be made to the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice Center, 920 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC.
Arrangements were provided by Cotten Funeral Home and Cremations and St. Paul's Catholic Church. Online condolences may be made at www.cottenfuneralhome.com.
