Shirley was a great person to work with in Chemical Engineering at the U of I. My sympathy to her family.

In the early 90s at about age 11, my friend and I often filled our time prank calling random people in the phonebook. We came across Shirley Goodenough and thought that name was super interesting. So we called her and when she answered we sang her a made up song that went as such : Shirley Goodenough woohoo, Shirley Goodenough woohoo, Shirley Shirley Shirley Shirley Good enough for you woo hoo!
I am now 43 years old and still remember her reaction. She didn't hang up, nor was she upset....she hummed along with us and seemed delighted! It was not expected and very cool of her!
I'm sorry for your loss. I know this is a strange story, but I came across her obituary and thought I'd share my lovely encounter. I'll never forget and may she rest in peace!
