David F. Gilmer, (Dave) of Concord Township passed away on December 9, 2022. Born in Harrisonburg, Virginia on August 20, 1934, he was 88 years old.David was an accomplished athlete which included a State title victory for the Harrisonburg Blue Streaks basketball team in 1952. He was outstanding player and co-captain of the team. David's drive to be outstanding in any endeavor he might task has been quite apparent for the duration of his life. He also was an avid golfer throughout his life. He will be dearly missed by his "group of guys" golf league.David was a public servant to the Lake County residents for half a century. His accomplishments are many. He served with dedication and thoughtfulness of spirit sharing his time and energy. His life was to develop and help shape the community, county, and state for a prosperous and productive future.Some of his accomplishments are serving in the Navy during the Korean conflict, he earned a BA at Ohio State University, earned a Masters of Urban Studies at Cleveland State University and was a Phi Alpha Alpha member. He was past President of the Fair Housing Resource Center, Executive Director at Lake County Development Council, Executive Director of Lake County Development Council, Trustee of Western Reserve Development Corporation, Planning Director for the Lake County Commissioners for26 years, Honorary member of the Painesville Rotary Club, past President of the Unity Church in Chesterland, member of Painesville Congregational Church, Past Commander of American Legion Post 336, member of the Elks club, member of NOACA, member of AFSME, and PERI Consultant to Lake County Planning and Leroy Zoning.He is survived by his sons, Steven Gilmer (Amy), Gregory Gilmer (Lori), grandchildren, Christopher Gilmer, Matthew Gilmer (Jenni), great granddaughter, Elise Gilmer, brothers, Vincent Gilmer (Connie), Delmar Gilmer (Carolyn) and sister, Jennifer Blosser (Eddie), and many nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Gilmer, son, Jeffrey Gilmer, father, Robert Gilmer, Sr., Mother, Arlene Gilmer, brother, Robert Gilmer, Jr., and sister, Sandra Gilmer.Arrangements are being handled by Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral home. Graveside services and a celebration of life will be announced in the spring of 2023.
