Mayo V. Spence, age 78, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at 10:21 p.m. at his residence.
He was born March 30, 1939, to Oakey and Audra Spence.
Mayo married the love of his life, Bertha Bailey, on June 25, 2005, and they have had 12 years of blessed marriage.
Mayo lived in Paris Twp. for 15 years, formerly of Perry, Ohio.
He worked as a maintenance worker for the City of Painesville for over 22 years before retiring in 2000. Mayo served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He enjoyed hunting, singing and playing bass in a Blue Grass band, and most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mayo had plenty of friends and if he was your friend he was a TRUE friend.
Memories of Mayo will be carried on by his loving wife Bertha of Ravenna; his sons, Mayo and Robin of Perry, George Stockton of Louisville, Ky., Shawn and Jill Stockton of Lincolnton, N.C., Tony and Laura Stockton of Columbus; his brother, Elmer Spence of Mentor; his grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, Natalie, Courtni, Ashley, Chase, Heather and David; and his great-grandchildren, Raven and Tristan; as well as many beloved friends.
Mayo was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 8 brothers.
Calling hours will be held at the James Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Robert Bonar will be officiating. Mayo will be laid to rest at Hawley Cemetery.
