James Jefferson Obituary

Funeral service for James "Pop" Jefferson Jr., 47, Rose Avenue, Daytona Beach, who died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Care Center, Port Orange, will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Greater Friendship Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, with the Rev. Dr. L. Ronald Durham, pastor, and the Rev. Fredrick Davis Sr., officiating. Burial will be at Volusia Memorial Park, Ormond Beach. Calling hours are from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today (Friday, May 20) at R.J. Gainous Funeral Home and from 1:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Mr. Jefferson was born in Thomasville, Ga., and moved to this area 40 years ago from Winter Garden. He was a graduate of Mainland High School. He was predeceased by his mother, Vera Canidate. Survivors include his caregiver, Gloria Smith, Daytona Beach; father, James R. Jefferson Sr., Winter Garden; son, Christopher George, Daytona Beach; brothers, Ricky Lowe, Thomasville, Ga., Donnie (Connie) Jefferson, Meigs, Ga.; sisters, Janet (Fredrick) Davis, Pelham, Ga., Charlene (Aundrey) Walker, Thomasville, Sharon (John) Flemmings and Gloria (Charles) Lowe, Meigs, Johnnie Mae (Walter) Hixson, Orlando; uncle and mentor, Charles Breedlove; aunt, Berniece Roberson; dedicated friend, Benjamin Carter; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. R.J. Gainous Funeral Home, Inc., Daytona Beach, is in charge of arrangements.
