Linda Beam Obituary

Linda Park Beam was born in Hempstead, Long Island, New York, on November 21, 1933, to Edmund St. John and Alice Stevenson Baldwin. They moved to Douglaston, N.Y., and from there to New London, Conn., where Linda attended school and graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in 1951 and met and married her husband, Robert Beam, who attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and then became a member of the Military Intelligence community. He worked as a special agent for The Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C., London, England, and at various other postings. They returned Stateside to a farm in Croswell on the upper peninsula of Michigan. In the early '90s they sold the farm and moved to Daytona, Fla., and finally landed in DeLand. Linda was a devoted wife and mother and never met a stranger. Her family and her many friends will miss her bubbly personality and positive spirit. She is survived by her three children, Michael Beam, Conroe, Texas, Rebecca Beam, Moodey, Texas, and her youngest child, David Beam, DeLand. She also is survived by her three siblings, Grace Parker, Whidbey Island, Wash., Patrick Baldwin, Norwich, Conn., and Christopher Baldwin, Charleston, S.C. Final arrangements will be handled by the Alavon Cremation Service of Daytona with a Memorial Service at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in DeLand on Saturday, December 8, at 10 a.m. for family and friends. She will be interred with her husband and parents in the Memorial Garden of The Calvary Episcopal Church, Stonington, Conn. Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Church in lieu of flowers.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
