Peggy Bodanske Obituary

Peggy Bodanske (Engel-Alexander)

Peggy Alexander 81, of Springfield passed away on September 7, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. She was with her sons and daughter in law in Albuquerque, NM when she passed.

Peggy was an innocent 19-year-old girl when she joined her new husband Bob Engel in Germany. She was grateful for the experience and education she received from her travels abroad. In Germany she gave birth to her oldest son, Greg. Her experiences in Europe with her young family were the subject of many fond memories.

She loved her years in Lawrence, Kansas while accompanying her husband at the University of Kansas. Many more wonderful memories were based in the years at Lawrence and the birth of her second son, Brett. Peggy was grateful to Bob for those wonderful years.

Peggy re-married in 1979. Retired Lt. Colonel David Alexander took Peggy all over the US and they had the fun of living near Washington, DC and New York City. Peggy loved recollecting seeing fabulous concerts in the big city, including her favorite, Frank Sinatra.

There are few St. Louis Cardinals fans as committed as Peggy. She often told of trips to St. Louis with her Mom and Dad to see her beloved Redbirds. It all began with her Daddy playing semi-pro ball and his shagging fly balls over the wall outside the old White City ballpark.

Peggy was blessed with wonderful friends, some reacquainting after the senior High Class of 1954 reunion. She loved the class of '54 bunch and the lunches she regularly shared with her core group of friends. She was grateful for their love and companionship.

Peggy is survived by her "baby" brother, Ed Bodanske and his wife Diane. Also her two sons, Greg Engel of Parker, CO and Brett Engel of Albuquerque, NM, Daughter-in-law Sandra Engel, Grandsons; Ryan Engel of Denver, CO, Ross Engel of Seattle, WA, Parker Engel of Albuquerque, NM, Chris Ermey of Lawrence, KS. Grayson and Carter Engel of Parker, CO. She also had an extended family of numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband David F. Alexander, her Mother, Francis Louise Bodanske Holman and her Father, Edward H. Bodanske.

There will be a short graveside service at Danforth Cemetery followed by a gathering of friends and family at Primas Mexican Grill 3662 S. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, MO on October 21, 2017 at 1:30 PM.
